The first three, maybe four seasons were. After that, it became just another cop show...

Agreed...the dialogue was so riveting in this series that I sometimes forgot about the cases they were working. Such a well-written show. Crap on TV nowadays is too 'mechanical' for my liking.

@@bloke_19xx33 that's the perfect way to describe it "mechanical" couldn't put my finger on it but there it is. Tv these days mostly are mechanical in the acting, storytelling, direction and characterizations. Homicide had passion and liveliness in every facet and so did many other dramas and sitcoms back in the day.

@@kendallrivers1119...No doubt, it was well ahead of its time at that time. Whenever a show has Tom Fontana, Barry Levenson , and Paul Attanasio at the helm, it’s almost always a sure winner.

@@jacklinden780 Correct. That was after some of the originals left, and the production team changed its focus to new shows (e.g., Oz).

"I'll Stand By You" by Pretenders made a great H:LOTS montage.

Every time I read this "Raymond Holt" crap, I know: There's another one who never saw HLOTS.

Why did you cut when Chrissie Hind starts to sing? One of the best moments of the first three seasons.

Jimmy and the Bunk were the ultimate bros on the Wire. But Frank and Tim was truly a dysfunctional relationship, maybe the most dysfunctional on TV. Tim as early as season 3 considered Frank his best friend yet Frank by season 6 still can’t say Tim was his best friend. The one time we ever see Frank vulnerable is after his stroke where he looks for Tim to rekindle his magic. But taking away all those layers, Frank respected and cared for Tim in his own anti social way. Basically one was an anti social and the other too wet behind the ears.
