That must have been such a difficult time to be a detective. They had to painstakingly read through the DMV registry instead of just typing their quandary into a computer.

Just imagine how it was back when all they had was landline phones, typewriters and the newest invention was the electronic word processor.... and for most of the biggest and most advanced Law Enforcement agencies, on the state and city levels, in particular, (NYPD, LAPD, etc...), they only uniformly started to have better tech 10 - 20 years ago... shoot, most places, they still hand write all reports first then have them hand typed into their systems.

I feel Frank and Tim was the best balance of Invention and Innovation; Frank: being hard-nose and committed to the craft of being a detective, doing his best to find new and clever ways to operate within the confines of a Justice System that was far less than ideal or perfect in actually carrying out its purpose- rendering true justice; and then theirs Tim: the titular “outside the box” young and creative detective that, despite getting to know that system is far from perfect, still optimistic to what they(as cops, as detectives), can still do to make the system work, even if you have to break pass the rules and make new one as you go.... it was both awesome and bittersweet to see how and where, both these characters evolved to, at their final bows of this show.... but eternally one of the best realistic fictional duo’s, in dramatic entertainment history, I think.
