Homeworld music is always one of the unique aspects of the series. But it's funny. We have gone from being out in space and making it feel like a desert, to an actual desert.

And this reminds me quite a bit of the Dune movie series, as well as the (quite old) Dune RTS that may have been made by the same guys who did Command and Conquer given the graphics and how it played. But watching just a couple of gameplay videos of HDOK I can tell you right now that this COMPLETELY pounds the Dune ones into the dirt...or sand :). I cannot wait to get this!

This can basically influence the next generation of modern games and indeed some movies, as new directors or producers playing the game could be influenced to say make a new DUNE movie using the influences of Homeworld for example which is essentially DUNE without the Spice issue. My only worry is that current world views would look unfavorably at DUNE and franchises like the Homeworld series due to the middle eastern influences thanks to little shits spreading fear and hate around. We need these types of games and stories to thrive.

@@Kiljaedenas well they both do take place in a desert planet yet they are different. The Dune empire has the resources to throw at spice minning. The people of Kharak are huddled to a melting northern Ice cap with a population of 100million
in fiction space is always depicted as an ocean, vast and deep with mysteries and with new discoveries and life on the horizon. Homeworld made me realize that the desert is a much better analogy for the challenges of space travel. lifeless, inhospitable, harsh. are you prepared for the journey?

.....Right in the feels. This game felt less punishing then the original, but no less thematic. Things like how it showed you that there was no way you'd have enough water for the return trip on loading screens. The battle chatter. Seriously. This series set the bar for me for battle chatter.

One thing I like about DoK vs 1 and 2 is the comms chatter. You will hear very random chatter about sensors acting up, people waiting on confirmation, etc... It made everything feel ALIVE.
They're just like ships of the 1st homeworld. But for sand. This franchise is pure gold. Long life to Hiigara!

And also Cataclysm/Emergence. Shocking how this game felt more like the first two games in the series than HW2 ever was.
47:29 "Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Viche" "The worship of Goddess Durga removes the effect of all types of black magic, unfavourable effect of negative planets, bad luck, health problems, or problems posed by enemies. " Leaving this here because i keep forgetting what it means.

Deserts are foreboding war. You can plainly see that there's not enough resources to go around and that the neighboring tribes have to die for your family to survive. That's why desert music in media are both majestic but with a dreadful undertone.

@@BIGESTblade The Homeworld series, more so than the Dune series, made me understand cultural identity, which was an alien concept for me before. This series exemplifies how cultural rifts within the same species come to be. I wanted to protect my fleet at all cost from all those Alien threats, even though all those "threats" you fight turn out to share common ancestry with yours. In most 4X-games i tend to have an imperialist doctrine, unite all people under one banner, pool technology and resources and establish a Yassa/ Pax Romana. Homeworld is the only series that managed to turn me into a hardened national-socialist within a heartbeat.

"Shipbreakers" is my personal favourite.
Better late than never but 02 Epsilon Base certainly draws influence from battlestar galactica with the drums and all
Even with the slight oldness of Homeworld 1, the suddenness of Cataclysm/Emergence, the offness of Homeworld 2, the unlatched jankiness of the Remasters, and the shortness of DoK, the music of Paul Ruskay for this series will never be a disappointment anytime soon.
