Just "fabulous". I grew up with my gram canning, but sadly after one exploded while she was pressure canning...I was small, it really scared me. With that, I am in my 40's now and tired of freezing everything and am about to begin my canning journey! I am starting with beans, and my own bone broth! I need to fill my food storage with shelf stable items. Thanks for the great video.

You are amazing 👏. 👏. Your canning is far from boring! You can pantry staples, not frilly speciality items. Families don't fill their bellies with frufru items! You have a versatile collection of whole foods, and that's what matters.

Holy COW, and PIG oh and Chicken! Lady that is AMAZING!Thanks Jessica and Ruth for telling me about this awesome channel. Homestead Heart started my canning journey almost 3 years ago but it was something I was do8nf as a teenager but didn't pick up again until i was 49. I spent 23 years buying local at farmers markets and butcher's but I froze everything. Then 2020 hit and I knew I had to do something different... so I went back to my child hood and Googled how to can chicken. Mrs Heart emailed me when I was worried i was wrong and helped me do my first 19 pts of own chickens. You tube has so many wonderful people helping each other. Your pantry is awesome! We call ours the grocery store. All 6 of our children know they can always shop home grown meat or veggies anytime. ❤

Thank you for sharing... both RuthAnn and Jessica suggested coming over. While I've been canning and preserving for over 50+ years, I believe you can or should never stop learinig from others. I grew up with a Menninite "Grammy", and she taught me sooo much and from the old ways. I still do many of those methods, I don't argue wirh anyone about, just still use somenof them, some not so much and it's more of a time element, not a concern for the safety issue... and all of are very much alive and healthy sooo there's that.😂 Anyway, just wanted to say hi, and thanks! Blessings ❤

Sent from Jessica, I'm a 62 yr old from NZ. Awesome pantry of food you have there. I used to can as you call it, we call it preserving, but I don't think it's worth it now I'm on my own. Produce here is so expensive, I grow what I can so that I don't have to buy it from the supermarket, but if I process anything it is for the freezer. Subbed. Thanks for the tour. I can't wait to watch more of you processing stuff. 😂❤

I think your house is beautiful and the basement isn't scary it looks grate , and reminds me of my grandma's ,she was a Sturn bul a loving person who canned and cooked from scratched . She planed her meals by looking in her basement then the garden and around her yard ,then finally in her fridge. I live in Bay county ,mi. May I ask what county u live in ,and what is your last frost date ? Mine use to be around 5 -15 . But I was told by my library it's around 5-2 .thanks richard

But also appreciate ideas expounded on some of the meal/ dish creations some do with their staples 😉 Question: when you mentioned the various ways of serving meat were you saying some was canned with spices and some without? if so with canning would expound a little what kind of spices and how you would use the spiced canned meats please?

You have a very nice pantry, thank you for sharing that with us. My favorite meat to can is pork roast, I also can green chiles. I add the two to a pot and make Green Chile con Carne. Serve it with tortillas. At the end of your video, there were lids, that said "leat". What was that? Thank you. I subscribed and look forward to more videos.

I have done raw packed meat, but I prefer browning the meat first for flavor. My absolute favorite meat to can is round steak. It comes out sooo tender. The best for fajitas! Bravo on learning to can! I started canning out of necessity, but also because I love to grow anything and everything in my garden! So satisfying! God Bless your family!

Love your tour - looking forward to the next one! I follow RuthAnn and Jessica too. I have gained so much knowledge this year from those ladies. I render my fat from my pigs. When you use yours do you melt it down? For instance, I would not melt it for pie pastry but what about using it as a replacement for olive or vegetable oil? Do you melt it down and then use it as a replacement for those? The only thing i really use it for now is to put in my fry pan prior to cooking.

Hey! Welcome! So far we love it for sauteeing, eggs, and popping pop corn! It’s not as hard/solid at lard or tallow but I’m still tempting to try baking with it too at some point.

How do you know if it's bad? We pressure canned deer last year, and I'm a little nervous about using it. Just because I've never canned meat before.

Lids that come unsealed will allow oxygen in and mold will start growing. I’ve actually never had a jar of meat unseal and be bad! Occasionally it happens with fruits or veggies though

@@carlacounts4508store your jars without rings. Lift the jar by the edge of the lid before opening and when you open, listen for that vacuum sound. If the lid didn't release by you lifting, and when you opened it you heard a good vacuum release, it's perfectly safe. Follow up by the nose test. If you're still sketched out (you shouldn't be) cook the heck out of it. But honestly, you'll be fine!
