Thank you so much for this! I feel like it is so valuable to stick with curriculum for the long run in the ages of K-5 so they don’t have gaps. I can say that as a person who tried many things hoping to finally find a good fit and realized my oldest just needed consistency. He needed a familiarity with the way something was being taught to build on. I’ll have to look at your channel to see what you have regarding writing and grammar because I have younger kids that I want to be consistent with so when they are older they can write about anything.

So much wisdom here! I had a similar talk with my sons recently. Their education is to benefit them, not me. That really did motivate. Studying people who worked diligently for years to accomplish something big is very motivating also.

Thank you for answering these!! This was very helpful. I have enjoyed having my 7th grader with us since we switched to Charlotte Mason. I do want to have him leave us for History. I want to hold onto the last few years we have him.

Regarding investing/putting in as much effort as they are putting in @32:00. I agree with you. We told our kids we would pay for piano lessons for the first two months so they could experience it. After that, if they wanted to continue we would continue to pay for their lessons only if they are practicing and progressing (the piano teacher would let us know). We told them playing piano is not a requirement they don't have to do it after the first two months and we won't pay for them if they don't want to do it or are showing signs of no longer being interested. Six months in and so far so good. Thanks for the insights!

Abby, Thank you so much for explaining how you beef up your family subjects for your older children. This is so smart! I really want to hold onto family learning for certain subjects as long as possible, and I do find myself having to put in effort to make it more rigorous for my oldest.

I would love to hear you talk more about narration and the CM method for writing as your kids are getting older. My oldest is going into 4th and we are just starting to add in written narrations and I’d love to see how/when you start to refine them and expect more in preparation for high school level writing.

The book “Know and Tell” is a huge help for this!

Happy to hear "family subject" time is a priority. I encourage you to stay strong in this even when you have to be more flexible. Learning with my kids was the most important part of our homeschool. I have 2 adult kids who would agree and I have a very close relationship with them. This is my 25th year homeschooling and I have a lot to look back on and evaluate. I am currently homeschooling adopted children which Is a whole other subject. Also I didn't school my daughter (she is in her mid-20s now) with college in mind but she did end up doing college and had no problem succeeding in all of her classes. (She's on her way to becoming a midwife!) We engaged together in learning as much as possible. We explored. We read great books together. Some years we did coops. Each year was different and always an adventure. We didn't do a lot of textbook learning and both of my older children have succeeded in what they were meant to do.

This was so helpful, thank you! We have been using story of the world for the last couple of years and my kids (ages 3-12) love it. For middle school/highschool, do you keep moving in the book while they do the research/written narrations on a specific topic? Is there a specific amount of topics you choose for them to expand on or is it based on their interest? I’d love to keep sotw through highschool for my oldest.

Where do you get the lab kits from again? I couldn’t find the link! Thanks for what you put out! We have almost identical age and gender of kids. Many other similarities as well. My daughter and I enjoyed listening to this on our drive to dance ☺️

This is so encouraging. I want to combine my kids, but have a wide range. I love the idea of picking the spine and then adding to it for the older ones. This has given me the encouragement to do this next year. I have 1 year left with my oldest and 3 with the one after him (then some younger ones). I want to have a year where we all at least do a few things together. Looking forward to planning it. Thank you!!

Thank you for this! I was wondering if you could make a video and suggest what you would have your daughter take if she was called to missions. My daughter feels called to South Africa and I’m wondering what I should have her take, if anything, in particular. Thanks!
