This is another key difference between Simpsons and Family Guy - when The Simpsons make fun of American politics, American society or American culture they tie it back to the basic human flaws we all share, and admitting that everyone can be swayed by laziness or gullibility. But in Family Guy McFarlane just seems to be sneering at the voters and the leaders at the same time, sometimes openly saying "Voters are just morons." The Simpsons makes fun of American politics with affection, but Family Guy does it with contempt. The attitude kills any appreciation I might have for that show.

The whole reason we went into Afghanistan is because we heavily armed the Mujaheddin to fight the Russians and pulled out before they had established a government, which is why they were at a civil war from then until we intervened. Patterson and Homer’s conversation at the end there is pretty much how I picture Hillary and Trump’s phone call on election night: “Hello Hillary. I hope that we can leave the unpleasantness of the election behind us and still remain friends.” “Donald, you told people I was operating child sex ring out of the basement of a pizza parlour in Washington D.C.” “Oh, yeah. That was just a lie.”

Pretty good analogy for Brexit as well.

I stopped laughing at the debate simply because of how depressing accurate it is.

I totally see trump going into a prime minister’s office and shaking there bird cages until he gets what he wants lol…and then before he leaves he shakes it again just in case…lol

It's amazing how he has no actual idea what the job is, and just spouts of vague soundbites he probably stole from a movie.

I watched this episode the other day and felt like my stomach was full of ice.

@@nothingineternityterms No one knows who killed him, and it's enraging that nothing will likely come from it. But to think Trump did it. Dude, Epstein would have had a book of enemies that would want to have knocked him off. Maybe Trump was one of them. But don't just assume and assert it was him without any evidence or even a rationale to justify it. Talking like that is what leads to people having distorted views of reality. If you want to do that, get a job at CNN, no one will miss you when you're gone.

"Are we gonna let politics get in the way of our friendship?" This is such a 90's thing to say.

This is actually closer to the truth than I would have thought. Remember when Trump was going to bring back all the manufacturing jobs? And put tariffs on foreign goods? And negotiate better trade deals for America? Remember when Trump did none of that?

While Homer was a terrible garbage commissioner, he actually did have the right to an apology. The garbage men could see Homer but ignored the man until he insulted him and immediately after assaulted Homer and cut him off from garbage pickup out of pettiness.

So relevant even in 2018 , and did you notice mention of the "button" .

Up until 2017 we did not have had public officials in the US that showed consistent incompetence on the job, from the presidency to municipal governments, even with the occasional slip up or corrupt politician, it wasn't as severe for it to be intolerable for the American citizen, so for the most part, Patterson's warning to Homer held a lot of weight as political satire at the time and as a deterrence from demagogues, but now we have passed the threshold where fiction became reality a long time ago

God damn one the best episodes ever.

The Simpsons foresaw a lot of things.
