HomePod Mini vs. Amazon Echo & Google Nest Audio - What's the Best $99 Smart Speaker?
Ғылым және технология
Apple recently released the HomePod mini, a new $99 version of the original HomePod that's smaller, cuter, and, most importantly, competitively priced. At $99, the HomePod mini can better compete with affordable smart speakers from companies like Google and Amazon.
The HomePod mini has been praised for its high-quality sound at its price point, so we thought we'd compare it to Google's Nest Audio and Amazon's Echo to see how it measures up in terms of sound quality, design, and smarts.

It’s surprising to me that you didn’t mention that the HomePod mini is another part of the Apple ecosystem, and that is very valuable to many people. People with iPhones, for example, can connect to the HomePod mini using Airplay, so then they have better sound when they’re listening to music or watching a video. There’s a really cool thing about the HomePod mini where all you have to do to transfer sound from your phone is to bring the phone close to it and it automatically connects. I’ve only had the HomePod mini for a week and I use that feature all the time, so it’s really surprising that you didn’t mention that. Also, if you have an Apple TV, you can connect that to the HomePod to automatically get better sound than your TV speakers. You mentioned that 2 HomePod minis can connect for stereo audio, so imagine doing that, but connected to your Apple TV. It’s basically a home theater setup but with all the same smart functionality. One more thing about the HomePod mini that you didn’t mention is privacy. Amazon and Google collect recordings from their smart speakers. Apple doesn’t. That has a lot of value to me, so again, it would’ve been nice if you mentioned that.
6:20 you can also do that with the Echo and Echo Dots which are half the price of the HomePod Mini and slightly smaller
Heavily invested in apples ecosystem BUT also with google home (cameras, doorbell and now door lock). We currently have two HomePod mini's and I am on the fence with getting a nest mini for the doorbell sound or even a nest hub, to replace HomePod mini. Not sure where to go from here.
Thanks you so much for this video🤗 I have an Amazon Alexa but I am thinking about getting my mom a HomePod, considering we all have Apple products.
How can I buy extra Adapter for nest audio
I have paired echo speakers in my home office and recently the Amazon service is getting worse for music and podcast playback. Alexa cannot find certain albums and the playback on some mixed albums puts breaks in between tracks. Podcasts pause for no reason and it’s not my WiFi being bad as steaming on iPhone or iPad results in no problems. Am looking forward to getting the HomePod mini where hopefully these frustrations with the echo won’t be there

I'm deeply invested in the Apple ecosystem (iPhone, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, Apple Watch, Apple Music, iCloud, AirPods Pro, and Apple t.v.). I have the larger, $300 HomePod and I love it HomePod works across all my devices and the bass quality is phenomenal! I got an Amazon Echo Dot for my mom and its responses are, somewhat, more intelligent than Siri's.
Thanks for the review and demo.
So I listened and not watched this video, I did this twice on the audio only, headphones on back to the TV, using my iPad air playing the video to the TV. Then I paused it at what I thought was the best sounding device as I could hear the switching, as nothing is displayed on an iPad when in airplay. It was the Echo I thought sounded best in a totally blind test. What swung it for me was the last clip although the HomePod beats the Nest, the detail was far clearer in the Echo at 5:20 than the Mini prior I will say not an exactly fair review - as watching back the first two clips were instrumental then switched to Mini with beats.. I mean c’mon play the same clip on all or it’s pointless I do own a HomePod Mini though.

Google is a great ecosystem and it great and works with many different devices like my iPhone and iPad. I find it very easy to control and it’s just simple and easy while Alexa doesn’t really know much. That’s because the google ecosystem is much much larger and has direct contact with a google engine. Google is overall the best out of the 3 because you just have a lot more context to a much bigger web environment.

I’m kinda thinking maybe I’ll continue with both. I like HomeKit and had almost decided to go with that but the smart things to add to it are very expensive and where I am the range is fairly limited. So I’m thinking if I use HomeKit for anything with a camera as I feel it’s possibly more secure, and then use Alexa for smart switches and things like that maybe I’ll have the best of both worlds. I was thinking maybe I should wait for Matter to increase the range of less expensive options but I’m not so sure it’s going to be as wonderful as it seems. Once I have more HomeKit compatible items then I could organise them by room so it’s easy to remember who to ask. I don’t know though. I’m going to wait until I move so I have a couple of months to think about it.

Most important is voice assistant, next time cover that part.
This is the first time I have watched one of these comparisons with headphones on. I avoided ‘watching’ the video and just listened. But damn, one of them stood out with more dynamic sound. I looked up saw that it was the HomePod. It seems like it has a really good mix of bass, mids and treble, compared to the other speakers that have either bass or highs.
Bro, the red colours in your videos are over saturated. I say this with love because I enjoy your videos. But maybe look into the grade/ white balance of the screen you edit on
Google home nest speaker is definitely the best one very clear
You can mute the HomePod in the Home App.
Let's be real, most people are gonna go for the. cheaper options like the home mini. Also, the neat audio could be considered the premium of the 2 out of the nest line. The ones with the display is in a different line of products.
Picked up a Homepod Mini recently. While it 's a nice sounding smart speaker, the lack of Spotify support really kills it for me.

@kieransawdust

@@RachaelJohn You can, but you have to fiddle with the settings to change Spotify to the primary music app and the end result of that is not as intuitive as it is with Apple Music. It's kinda annoying because Apple reportedly approached Spotify on the topic of further integration so that you could do all the tricks that you can with Apple Music on a HomePod that you can with Spotify, but Spotify said no for some reason? They're apparently not on the best terms company wise. Then again I'm on the flip side of this, I have an Alexa and use Apple Music, and God is Alexa thick with Apple Music (which to be fair, is a deliberate move from Apple to make the HomePod more attractive to people who use Apple Music and tbh, it's working haha)

Homepod Mini is amazing
The real time tuning is why you can't turn off the mic
Considering the size and the infamous "Apple tax", I think a better comparison would have been for different smart speakers in it's SIZE class (the Nest Mini and the Echo Dot), rather than it's price point, with points of "for it's price, this isn't bad" or "this is pretty good, but considering the price tag, etc. etc."

Dude… the plant behind makes you look like you have long crazy hair. Startling… you should move it down for videos so there’s stark contrast from you and the light wall color. Video was great. 👍
Google just has a better AI. But you can’t deny Apple is quality. So it’s sound quality vs. multifunction vs. the only speaker that allows you to order off of Amazon
@tristiangaming
2 жыл бұрын
Echos sound great for the price when you adjust the eq even better
No pod mini = privacy without muting the mike.
Those two have mute buttons because they have a continuous connection with the cloud, audio key words are listened for by the server. While the Apple HomePod processes audio keywords on the device, only uploading audio to the server after a Siri command has been initiated. It takes more on device horsepower, and has some speech recognition errors relative to google and Amazon who use ai to learn and profile each user’s intonation. So if you want a company to listen to and process every conversation you have, get an Alexa or a google home. If you only want them to process your requests after you initiate them, get an Apple HomePod.
I preferred the sound make by Apple and Echo. The Nest not so solid.
Music.... really. I’m an apple person...iPhone iPad mini, 2 iPads w cell, 2 Apple TV. Use an echo gen 3 in kitchen for measurements timers etc. if you want MUSIC, YOU NEED to feel it. Go get an Onlyo amp, some cables and Mirage, B&W or Polk Audio
Echo dot still cheap and amazing !
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, kzread.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
You can mute the mic on the HomePod mini. Just have to say "Hey Siri, stop listening." If you want to turn it back on, you can do that in the home app or by pressing down on the center of the HomePod and say "Siri, start listening"
I’m completely Appled out, but google voice assistant is way better than Siri.

I've always been an apple fan, but wanted to break free from vendor lock. Now that I have discovered Google products, I find that many features are much better than those of Apple and especially the price is more attractive. And you can use the Google products with IOS, just to name a few. Since Steve Jobs is gone, Apple is all about money and not about innovation. For example, I now have a Galaxy Watch 5 that contains much more technology than the Apple Watch.
One thing these videos never seem to cover is the fact that if you purchase an Echo not only do you get great sound quality and a decent AI as far as personality and queries, But you actually get to shop the entire Amazon market whether that's groceries, tools, or just everyday items with your voice only..

Sound test was better for the HomePod mini IMHO, but I might bias since I have most of my devices on Apple ecosystem.....
Amazon Alexa is the best for home automation, it has the most skills,. Also, Google can't add a device to more than 1 room or group; example: kitchen and family room are adjacent to each other and I want the lights in both room to turn off if I say all, as well as independently turning off either room. Alexa is inexpensive so I bought 8 to equip every room with Amazon Alexa to voice control lights, music, tv, fireplace, ceiling fan, temperature, etc. Amazon echo devices have a 3.5mm headphone jack to send sound to a bigger speaker.
If you want to give a gift to one you really love, don't get a perpetually-recording device. To be fair I wouldn't like if somebody gifted one to me. I'd politely say thanks, but I wouldn't feel comfortable using it, especially Alexa.
