Making a homemade birthday cake for our 16 year old..
Happy Father's Day to all Dads..
Vanilla Cake:
2 1/4 cup flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup milk
1/4 cup canola oil
3 lg. eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Combine dry ingredients and whisk together. Add the butter and mix until it looks like a sandy texture. Combine the wet ingredients and whisk together. Add to the dry ingredients. Mix until combined. Pour batter into a greased 9"x13" cake pan. Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes.
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting:
1 cup butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
2 to 4 Tbsp. milk
1 Tbsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
Beat butter until creamy. Add 2 cups sugar and 1 tablespoon of milk. Mix on low, and then on high for 1 minute. Repeat process with remaining sugar and 1 tablespoon of milk, add more milk as needed. Add the vanilla and salt and mix well.
