I've been thinking about building a storm room in my basement. We've had a couple of weaker tornados go over our community the last three years and drop into nearby towns. I have a wooded property and the storms topped some of my trees and made a mess of things. My main fear is that a bad storm could bring down some of my very large trees onto our home. I've watched a few videos on storm shelter construction, one being a NEMA, do-it-yourself shelter made of interlocked 2x8's and plywood and other materials. I'm thinking that might be a bit of overkill for our area, but it got me thinking about being more prepared. Thank you for your video. You are obviously a nice man and I admire you building something to protect you and your family. Hopefully, good fortune will keep us both safe from "the big one".

i'm not at home rn, but they make these poles for safes that velcro onto the bottom of the top shelf and point straight down to go into the barrels of the long guns and allows you to take out the crappy sectioned shelf. it keeps them where you want them without them needing to rest on something and they can still be taken out fast and can make it so you can fit a lot more in your safe. they are called rifle rods or liberty rods or something like that. check them out it might work for your safe so you can custom fit as many as you can in there. nice storm shelter/safe room tho. looking forward to seeing it done and more of your videos in general. best

I’m guessing you have a first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, emergency radio, medicines, important paperwork in there?

Hey kc about to begin designing my shelter in my basement, hoping for a 3rd review very soon, any pointers it’s going in my basement under my trailer house, did some framing in my life but all the projects I did the concrete and anchors were done before, looking to be safe with 200 mph winds, looking forward to hearing from you!

How about a fold down bench so you’re not standing. We also need part three. 😊

I was trying to come with something for seating. Never thought of something folding down. Thanks for the idea. Part 3 hopefully by end of February.

Be careful. A F5 can send a rock, screw, nail or two by four through that ply board and even concrete board. For safety I would do research before I trusted that.
