I live with 5 dogs and all were unhealthy on kibble, fancy, organic etc... I feed them this type of diet now, all organic (no GMO) basically chicken and veggies, lentils, peas etc... and they are doing great. One had a cyst, it started shrinking!! One has eye problems and it cleared up (no more expensive meds). I rescued all of my dogs (Pugs/1terrier) and all came with issues. I can't say enough about cooking your own dog food as shown on this vid!! Please do. Kibble is like processed cereal. They all lost weight and are looking lean. For a older Pug, that's a miracle LOL!!

That's because vets/shelters who house rescued dogs usually feed them the cheapest kibble they can find because feeding so many animals is expensive. I adopted my dog from a veterinary practice and he ate alpo dry and alpo wet food mixed together before I adopted him. Most people that adopt animals aren't aware of how poor the diet, exercise, and sometimes living conditions a sheltered dog comes from.

Have you considered raw? Lentils of course should be cooked but meat and bones are much better for a dog when raw!

TheHelpfuldad we feed our dog something like this, we do more of a meatloaf style, handful of spinache, broccoli, sweet potato chunk or two, half an apple, half a pear, handful of blueberries. mince it all. mix it in with 3 pounds turkeym, 3 pounds beef lean, 3 pounds chicken. 3 eggs and a tiny bit of olive oil. bake it 375 for 90 minutes. cut it into slices and ration it out, shes a 3 pound yorkie, she eats half a slice in the morning, half in the evening. works great. shes building good lean muscle mass.

I made this recipe for my girls Amber & Niobe a few days ago when I saw your video and my Beagle loved it! My chow/Healer mix picked over hers over the next few days and hardly ate any of it. Tonight I made it again with a few adjustments, no celery, but included all the other veggies in your recipe, an extra sweet potato, 1 apple and my chow mix Niobe loved it! They both love it now. Thank you so much!

This video is so good! I just found out that Beneful(sp) is getting sued because the dog food is making dogs sick and some dogs even died from it. We don't feed our dog that brand any more, but I was telling my husband we should probably start cooking for our dog. Its actually much more healthier for them. Lol good idea.

TheHelpfuldad I dice things like carrot, celery, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and spinach. I cook the veggies al-dente. So they still have a little crunch to them so they don't lose all their vitamins. Then after they are cooked I process them. Then I add a little brown rice and my cooked minced meat. I also give them a doggie vitamins to make sure they are getting everything they need. I just need to cut back on how much I am feeding them. They are getting fat! lol They love it. Thanks for your video.

These video's are actually helpful if you have a pet you love and want healthy. They have been finding bacteria and purposely placed harmful chemicals in certain brands of can and dry dog food! How do I know this, my dogs were vomiting everything they ate, can food and dry , so after consulting with our vet we decided to try making it ourselves . We have happier and healthier dogs. Some really good expensive brands, so in the end it was cheaper and better for their health. Maybe this isn't for everyone, but I'm happy that our dogs feel better. 😊💕

Thanks for sharing this. Just found out today that my dog might be allergic to normal dog food. She has really torn up her hair, chewed on her legs bad, etc. We thought we had it under control, but it has just got worse day-by-day. So, we took her to vet today, because nothing seemed to help. He had said it was allergies related to summer, but now -- he says it is FOOD ALLERGIES because it is so bad. So, we feed her lots of chicken and no grains. So, it has to be chicken probably -- something she ate lots of. Thus, we're going to try making it ourselves now. Thanks for ideas.

Thumbs up. This is almost exactly, to the letter, what my vet (who is the best) told me would be the best recipe for my dogs. He did say was OK to include some WHOLE grain in small amounts. I'm talking Quinoa etc. - NOT white rice. or any other low-quality carb. He cautioned greatly against RAW meat in dog food - for the same reason it's not safe for 2-legged dogs.

I'm not saying they are bad, I use frozen sometimes myself, but I try to go with fresh and local whenever possible. And yes I believe blanching is required for all frozen vegetables, even if you were to freeze them at home yourself you would have to blanch them as you can't just throw any veggies in the freezer.

  • @MrSheepboy

I wish you could post the shopping list for the recipe in your future posts in the description... I mean along with how much for 1 meal versus the whole reciepe. As I understand it, we wont feed the whole thing to the dog so how much of what is where I am confused

Look at it this way everyone. As long as you get your pets off grocery store rot gut food, and feed either raw or cooked, you are doing your pet a good service. There are certain meats I would never feed raw, like lamb, rabbit or pork. Some people do though, and as long as their pups are happy and healthy, go for it. Are you aware that some people are known to feed their dogs vegetarian? I wouldn't recommend it at all, and kind of feel they are pushing their own agenda onto their pets. I like to add some garlic to my pets stews, some scream at me for that. Yams and sweet potatoes and broccoli are good for dogs. Mine get squash and all kinds of stuff. I even give them bites of celery with peanut butter as a treat. Dogs don't need all their nutritional needs in one day or at each meal. We are all wanting to do better for our pets, so let's try to be encouraging and accepting that while none of are perfect in this endeavor we each are working toward a healthy goal.

patriotsrus Thank you for your comments, I too give my dogs garlic and have done so since they were puppies, but then I placed slices of garlic into their drinking water and later they always had a little in their meals. We never had a problems with flees and they never needed flea medication. I do not understand why so many vets say garlic is not good for pets. Obviously depending on the size of dog, one should only give it in moderation. (I have a Dalmatian and Weimaraner)

Peter N. Proquitte Garlic thins the blood, So they can very easily bleed to death internally which would kill them. Most people these days are Really Stupid. Not being mean, but when they buy hot coffee for example, you have to Actually warn them that it's hot! So Not worth the Risk! God Bless 🐕🐾🐾🐾

My dogs really love this recipe. They already have more energy and are shedding a lot less and have even lost a little weight. My question is, how much to give them. I've been giving them about a cup and a half each twice a day but they still behave like they are starving. Maybe it's because they love it so much. Is once a day going to be enough? I find that I'm making a big pot of the stew every 3 days. It's getting to be a bit expensive.

I have a question...I've been watching a lot of videos and trying to find something that sounds like it makes sense...I think yours makes the most sense, except that some of the other ones highly suggested eggs (with the shells) because it's a high source of calcium...what do you think of adding eggs?

I cooke my own dog food with 5 types of vegetables and meat. Since I prefer to cook big pot I keep in the freezer in a small containers. Just before my dog ready to eat I blend dandelion leaves or roots, nettles and poor over her food and she loves it :) There is nothing more nutritious then wild plants.
