You could use a 100% coconut oil soap instead of a castile and it will make bubbles. Coconut oil soap is the only soap that will lather in salt water so it works awesome in hard water.

I just made this dishsoap and had very good results. The dishes are clean and best of all, they don't smell or taste like dishsoap. I had to try my own because I have a couple of family members who smell and taste soaps such as Dawn or Ivory etc. They are always complaining about it. Today they were very pleased not to taste or smell any soap! I have natural water here with natural mineralization. This recipe worked perfectly fine with no residue and very little rinsing. With commercial soaps, I was wasting energy attempting to wash away the smell of soap. Thank you and your family for sharing such a simple fix!!

The baby cooing at the beginning of the vid was music too my ears. So sweet!!!

Vinegar is usually used as a rinse to cut soap off of stuff. I was surprised it worked combined with soap. You can also use vinegar in place of fabric softener to soften clothes and remove remaining soap residue. I just subscribed. You all look so fun!

Thanks for the video. I couldn't find a recipe for liquid dish soap until I came across your channel. The only ones I could find were for dish washers. I have a dish washer but I think it's a waste of water. Watching you and your husband interact put a smile on my face and made me chuckle. You have a very cuuute 👶

Thank you Dale! We have noticed that it can leave a bit of a film on plastic-ware...but it does a good job on metal and glass.

This is the best diy natural soap video I have seen! I have been looking for ages. Most of the recipes include liquid castile soap which is really expensive (well at least it is here in the UK). It would work out as £5 ($6.65) per 500ml (17.59 oz)! Also you guys are a joy to watch so thank you.

Loved this!

Vinegar cancels out the Castile soap. The Castile soap is what causes the film. You can add vinegar to your rinse water to prevent a greasy film.

You two are fun! Enjoying your videos. I have not tried making this version of a dish soap but will give it a shot. I have used my home made hand soap combined with vinegar to wash dishes (always experimenting), it cleaned fine but not as well as I hoped. I think the vinegar is more likely to prevent a film than create one so that is odd people would say that. I need to try this particular recipe you used, I think the addition of the washing soda may be just the special ingredient to make it work even better. Thank you for sharing this! I am going to get on this soon, make a video, and will be sure to credit your channel for it :)

O yes, I meant to add, I find it easier to chop than to grate the soaps, it takes a little longer for it all to dissolve but it is less work - I despise grating! haha

Also if you have a favorite soap id add some of it to the soap so that way you get the best of both worlds .... Yes if i were you I'd try this recipe looks super easy and effective

Willow Creek Homestead I looked at our local Walmart but didn't see it. I will have to check out Amazon. I think that is where Dede orders the liquid stuff from. I try to stay away from there. I'll go there for a bar of soap and end up ordering a bunch of tools. In fact, I think I have some tools sitting in my wishlist cart right now...... 😊

Just take that liquid Castile, add a few drops orange essential oil and you then have a quick, easy wonderful dish soap.

Bubbles do not clean the dishes, it's just an added chemical to store brought soaps. Vinegar and citric acid gets rid of the film in my opinion.

I use vinegar n warm water to clean windows and glass figurines it's natural cleaner n disinfectant. If you didn't use it the dishes would be cloudy I also use salt as extra to help as a color fastener for colored plastics and extra water softener.

A little vegetable glycerin will thicken that liquid right up to the proper consistency You don’t need suds to clean, bubbles do nothing actually except visual appeal

Vinegar does not leave a film. As a matter of fact vinegar has been used for a century to clean windows without leaving a film.

Absolutely that's the best kind!!!!

Right now we dilute the Aldi version of Dawn and keep it in a foam soap pump by the sink. This stretches a single bottle pretty far. I'll have to keep tabs to see if homemade might beat our current frugality! Thanks!

We have very soft water and keep vinegar handy to rinse the dishes off. It helps get the soap off. I don't see any residue.

How is it on grease?

Vinegar doesn't make things cloudy. It's the oils in the soap that leave a film on things. Vinegar CUTS the film and rinses it away.

I've been making my own dish soap for years. I just use of 1 barCastile soap and equal amount of washing soda add 1 gallon water , glycerin, and essential oils . I've never heard of putting vinegar but I'm going to give it a try .

One bar of soap is about 1 cup of soap so I add 1 cup is washing soap . Glycerin I use about 1/2 cup . But I made a mistake I don’t make 1 gallon i make about 2 1/2 because I add more water after I melt the soap .

We make our own deodorant, clothes detergent, and use essential oils to make homemade cleaning solutions...we tried to make lye soap but it didn't turn out. Taking little steps here and there and figuring out what works and what doesn't. Thanks for dropping by!

No, I don’t believe so….different chemical composition and consistency. I haven’t tried it though, so you could always give it a try and see what happens!

hey ya'll...a tip to save your dish soap in...I use a vinegar bottle because its thicker...I was using milk jugs or water bottles but they started leaking after a bit...have a good evening... :)

It cut through grease/oil well. But does leave a film on plastic. So if you have plastic dishes/cups be aware!

You can...but it will leave a smell depending on the type you use. But...if it's a sweet smelling vinegar that may not be a bad thing!

I'm surprised that I'm not finding soap making videos around the farm/homestead channels. It's not hard to do. I mean, because you are using store bought soap to begin with.

It's normal for the soap to separate into a solid-ish layer and a liquid layer, just give it a good shake before using! If the whole batch has solidified into a clump, then I'm not really sure...I've never had that happen before :-(

I just keep adding water, and shake, it does great. I also add a few drops of 100% vegetable glycerine to each bottle I make, and shake. That helps to stop the separation that happens.

Do you still use this recipe or changed it since this video?

We use store bought dishwashing soap for the most part, we use this in more of an emergency. It does work, but you need to set aside time to make it. Thanks for commenting!!

Vinegar is going to eat up your hands.

"suds" or bubbles - do not clean. Suds are not actually required to get your dishes clean. That is all. Carry on. :)

No. This is wrong. You want an alkaline washing solution to improve the solubility of the soap’s fatty acids. Adding washing soda as you did is silly, suggesting you don’t know what you’re doing. It and vinegar neutralize each other. To soften water, add washing soda, not vinegar. It reacts with hard water cations, precipitating them as carbonates, and it increases the pH. It appears you both slept soundly through chemistry classes, and limited your research to clueless housewife YT videos and helpful household hints websites that are full of errors.
