I've been feeding a natural and raw diet for about 10 years now for my cats are so healthy, it really is the best diet if you have the time. The only concern I have with this recipe is that it omits a very important thing cats would get in the wild and that is calcium from eating bones. To do this cheaply you can use egg shells that have been dried in the oven for about 5-10 minutes. Then you can let them cool and grind them up in a spice or coffee grinder and add it to their food. Egg shell calcium is much easier for cats to digest. If you're not using fish like she did here you can use some krill oil capsules and break them open in the food as well. Over the years I've picked up tips and tricks from vets that encourage a cooked or raw food diet, thought I would share them with some like minded individuals. Oh another quick note, cats can't eat anything in the allium family which means no garlic, onions, chives, etc. Take care fellow cat parents 😺

Yes!! I can never understand feeding a cat or dog out of a bowl. It seems the food is much more accessible on a flat surface and if it has to have sides, I would choose something with very low sides. I never thot of ‘whisker fatigue’ but that makes total sense.

@@see3217 True, but the cost of cat food for a lot of brands like Natural Balance and Blue Buffalo has gone up by $20+ per case ($70+ Canadian for 24 cans). My cat can only eat low ash, grain free food or he gets urinary infection which is life threatening. It's still cheaper to make cat food than it is to buy the canned premium cat food.

I made this. I increased the recipe because I am feeding 4 on a daily basis. The initial cooking of the ingredients was a breeze, but when it came to deboning and mixing it all together that was a chore. I also ended up with 3 large pots and bowls to clean up. After $40+ and the end of it all none of them would eat it.

You can play around with the recipe. Another recipe I have seen is ground meat, 1 lb. Cook lightly with coconut oil. Add 1 or 2 eggs, some fish in water, sardines, tuna or salmon, or fish oil, some spinach, parsley, or kale. I would add some raw pumpkin. If you try different meats and combinations in smaller 1 lb doses, they can try it. And you won't spend as much time or money. I would also add some crushed freeze dried raw like Stella and Chewy dinner morsels to add essential vitamins to the mix.

For starchy fruit or vegetable (google whatever you are about to blend), an immersion blender with potato masher attachment is recommended. Also, that attachment is for COOKED food. It must be soft. It will create the smoothest puree. Why is a blender bad? It releases the starch and starch is basically glue. A blender has sharp high speed blade that shakes things at a molecular level, causing the release of starch. The attachment involves a thicker-body blade which through drag reduces speed. The blade is also dull. It's made of plastic. Besides this, the attachment has a speed reducer gear. This is the biggest difference. It reduces the high speed of blenders to suit starchy COOKED food. The attachment is an extruder as well, the extrusion helping to avoid over processing which can release the starch. You will see holes in the potato masher attachment. Thanks we have 12 cats that we shelter most are older cats so this looks like a good recipe!. I am getting beef liver from a man who runs an abattoir in this area so I need to blend as it is a long process to cook, cut in pieces as a beef liver is about 15 to 20 lbs, I add chicken as fish is expensive here in Canada's east coast!

I feed her wet food about 2-3 times a day depending on her appetize and my free time. But she also has free dry food that's always available for her to eat.

Heart is an excellent source of taurine. I'd add some anyway though, but gather this is okay. This is actually pretty good. I'm gathering the pumpkin and oatmeal provides= some bulk and vitamins. And the fish some Omega3s. Best fish though might be oily fish like sardines, salmon, mackerel, etc. Luckily they also are cheap (except salmon). Btw, taurine is an amino acid, and present in red meat and hard working muscles like heart, thigh meat, etc.

Please don’t use oats! Cats don’t digest carbohydrates well

I think pumpkin and cereals are not good for cats? Grains are not good for them

You can blend the bones. It's good for them.

My 2 cats are so picky + finicky, I have a strong feeling they would not eat this , especially with pumpkin in it. Wish they would. I have cooked + given them some chicken I boiled and put in blender but they just turn their noses up at it. So I highly doubt they would eat this. I keep trying things but to know avail! The store bought wet cat foods do stink if you smell them so I don't blame them for refusing it. If you have any other suggestions I would appreciate any . Thank you for sharing.

@Ak Hamp try smaller amounts of 🎃 as a test. Other fish as well. I just discovered that my kitty a picky eater like yours, likes cooked cod. All fish and no meat. Go figure!

3 times a day would be ideal, around 2-3 TBS each meal. I also leave extra before I go to bed so she can eat during the night

it depends on how big/small and how soft/hard the bones are. But yeah, normally i focus on removing the big ones. Missing few small bones is fine

I added pumpkin for fiber and oatmeal to actually make it thick (most store bought pate has agar-agar powder and I dont wanna use it so I use oatmeal instead, or even sometimes rice)

If cat moves food from bowl to floor, try a plate or pie tin. There is something called "whisker fatigue." Sides of bowl tickle cat's whiskers, it's irritating to them.

Cats also need texture and bones.

I would omit the oatmeal. Cats don't need that and can't digest it.

Never in history has a cat ever needed oats or vegetables. They are carnivores!

One cat only eats dry cat food, won't eat any people food. The other cat I'm sure would rip my face off to get himself that pate.

Cats should only have fish twice a week, fish contain arsenic that will build up in their bodies over time.

@@AllysCorner he ate a little bit once I had mixed it with his old food but then my kitten got really sick, he was vomiting, wheezing and had diarrhoea 😔 but alhamdulillah after 12 hours he is much better! I think he might be allergic to one of the ingredients.

Halal food? As long as you dont give him cat food with pork in it you can give him anything? Mice arent halal for humans but cats can eat them. There is no such thing as halal or haram for cats.
