Homemade bow press

Not wanting to drop $500+ on a new bow press? This is my solution. Total price was just under $100 and a couple afternoons of welding and cutting after work. If you have any questions please leave a comment or email me. Thanks for watching

I cant thank you enough for putting this together. I am almost complete with mine and so far its coming out great. The last thing for me to do is weld on little clip where the arms attach. I got my fingers from a friend who owns a CNC water jet cutter. Yesterday I finish drilled the 1/2 inch holes for the bolt and I also drilled and tapped the base to allow adjustment of the fingers individually. That part took the longest and I see that you didn't even have to do this. When I'm done I'll send you a pic. I am really looking forward to do my own bow work and tuning. PS> I'm also going to build a draw board. I've ordered the materials and am waiting on the parts from Amazon. I don't do any filming but thanks to people like you who do, I was able to get enough information to get started. Thanks Again Rodney Metrejean 63 years old (Retired) one stick bowhunter. (And Sometimes out of a Climber) My present favorite saying is (Since I'm Retired, I have no where I need to be, and all day to get there)

I built a powered version of this press before. I sold it to my buddy. As for the fingers, you can apply 2 or 3 layers of shrink tubing and it holds up well and easy to replace.

Genius! I'm tired of running back and forth to town to get mine worked on, bows take a lot of abuse in boats and I usually need it done asap and most bow shops tend to be on the ruder side and won't listen to what you want to do with your bow and do it their way.

.................... a press is needed only in case of assembling a compound bow, which has pocket bolts that do not allow the bowstring and cable to be completely loosened! if the bow is assembled and the cables and string need to be replaced or adjusted, it is enough to have an ordinary lighter or any object of the same size (wood, plastic) on hand - we rest our knee on the Riser, pull back the bowstring by 7-10 cm, and insert the object into the block, which will rest against the shoulder when the bowstring is released.

I think it would work just fine, that was actually a thought of mine but I had the scrap metal and not the jack so I went with the scrap metal. I would make sure it opens enough to use on your bow. Good luck

Groovie All that is needed is a solid base, a solid arm on one end and a moving arm on the other AND a piece of all thread to go in between them. I used 2x4’s Screw them solid to a piece of plywood on one end and hinge the other. Make cut outs for the pullies and you have a bow press Using steel is great but not necessary It just doesn’t take much to make a bow press. Heck I’m a hack and I did it successfully
