Homemade Blackcurrant Cordial with Sugar Free option

In this video we are making SUGAR FREE Blackcurrant Cordial with Homegrown Blackcurrants from our young Food Forest, using a refined Sugar alternative in exactly the same way you can make the traditional recipe using Sugar... I actually made 2 batches one with normal Sugar and one with the alternative option.
You'll be able to follow along with the video and make this SIMPLE Cordial for yourself.
We hope you enjoy the video and we hope that you enjoy making yourself some delicious fresh vitamin C packed Cordial too.

HI Iona - great to hear you have a beautiful black currant harvest 💜 I've made 2.5 batches now, some fresh and some in the freezer for a winter tonic 😋 Great to hear you are joining us from the UK too 🙌 Let us know what you think of your cordial ✌️🌿

Looks like a great drink. It has beautiful color. Here where I live there is no black currant and I have never seen in the market.

Interesting way . on the left over pulp . Why not first boil the black currants in water and first obtain the strained black current juice ?

HI Geoff, Yeah, you can do it that way for sure ... I do my Elderberry Syrup that way and others, this way is a little quicker and works well too. Also sweetens the sometimes bitter pulp with the sugar for if you would like to use it as a sorbet type treat 💚 Thanks for watching and commenting ✌️🌿

After waiting for three years, my currant plants finally have fruit. My first attempt will be to make a jam, but having stumbled across your channel I might give Cordial a try. Have you ever made a jam out of the pulp? it seems like that is an option. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds great! I haven't tried this, but I do sometimes removed the lemon rind and thyme stems and freeze the pulp and use it as like a sorbet with Chocolate cake 😋 Great to have you with us, enjoy your blackcurrants and all the possibilites 🙏✌️🌿

Great video, thanks! Did you notice any difference in storage time between the two or didn't it last long enough?! Just wondering if using the coconut sugar meant it didn't preserve for as long?

Hi Claire, I did purposely use the one with Coconut Sugar first, as I suspect it may not store as long ... If you wanted to make a big batch just with coconut sugar, I'd suggest bottling half and freezing half to use later 👍 Thanks for watching ✌️🌿

I've not tried canning it before, but I have frozen... I expect it would be fine though if you are using cane sugar as it will obviously preserve it, but can say for sure with alternative sweetners as not done the research or trials yet. Enjoy ✌️🌿

Hi, I haven't tried it with the blackcurrant cordial, I have used it in my Elderberry Cordial though, I link the recipe below. You do need quite a lot of honey though I believe to make sure. If you are going to use the cordial up quite quickly, within a week maybe, you could probably just sweeten to taste 💚✌️🌿 kzread.info/dash/bejne/daOX07yTdKi5qMY.html

Instead of individually collecting black currants….Bob flower dew recommends and I have to say I do this now…wait until the majority of the currants are black and cut off the whole branch just under the lowest bunch….and take to the kitchen to strip them…this means you have pruned for next year at the same time…works well..two jobs done.
