    I rarely say this, but this video may well kill someone, or worse, many people. Ball park numbers, Air is about 1kg/m3 and is at room temperature (~300 Kelvin) Dry ice is about -88C (212 Kelvin, 44g./mol, comparable to air). Practically this means to lower the room temperature by 10C means the final atmosphere will be about 10 % carbon dioxide. That will be fatal in about 30 minutes.

    No, you'll get that temperature by using less dry ice than 10% of the atmosphere (after evaporization), because of the enthalpy. It takes away extra heat from the envinorment to change the consistency of the dry ice from a solid to a gas.

    gelyn miranda English is not my first language, so I'm not sure about the names (I used google translator), but by the amount of energy needed for the consistency change, I basically meant the definition what you said. Enthalpy is the overall energy of a closed system.

    There's a thunderf00t video on why using dry ice is a terrible idea, especially in confined areas. Normal ice only, please. Dry ice is a real risk.

    +Billy the Kid Dunker You all forgot the biggest risk, CO2 is heavier than air, so it will gather on the ground. It may not be enough to kill an adult, but small children or animals like a cat will be dead in a few minutes. Just don't use dry ice inside a house

    If safety really was your number one priority, you would be wearing gloves when handling dry ice, and you should know of the safety concerns of using fans to blow around dry ice fumes in a confined space. Its just dangerous. If anyone decides to do this project at home, use normal ice, NOT DRY ICE!

    to people who are saying co2 is not that harmful there is at least 2 kg of dry ice in the bucket which is about 2000/44.1 = roughly 45.45 moles of CO2 which at STP will occupy 1000 ltrs of volume so there is quite a lot of CO2 there

    This works really good, where I live it gets really hot so I made this and we have been using it for several days and it really cools down the house. In order for it to work better you need to close all the windows and it feels really nice. Oh and crazy russian hacker can you please reply to my comment because I got sick today and I've been throwing up a lot.

    So i made one of these and put it in my kids bedroom last night, didn't hear a peep about the heat all night. in fact they've slept in pretty late, they are normally up really early but they've slept in past midday. I should probably check on them i guess, thanks for the great idea though!
