OH MY GOODNESS! I have been trying for SO MANY YEARS to get HomeLink from 3 of my different cars to work with my garage door opener and NOTHING. Last week my wife complained again, so I thought; What the heck... Let's go back to KZread and try again. Today my order arrived, I tested the piece you recommended and VOILA! Just in time for Father's Day. So I will be in the good books this weekend! Thank you @EricTheCarGuy

I ordered this exact HomeLink Repeater from Amazon ($43 - LiftMaster 855lm Homelink Repeater Kit), and it worked perfect for our 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe and our 2009 Nissan Murano! It took less than 5 minutes to program each vehicle. I don't have a LiftMaster garage door opener. However, it worked just the same for our new Craftsman (MyQ) garage door open that we had installed back in 2020. We have not been able to use the HomeLink system that was built into the older cars until now. I even drove each car down the block about 150 feet (a house and a half away) to see how far the repeater signal would work. The garage door opened from that distance!! Thank you for keeping this video simple and straight forward!

Eric: You are a genius to have figured this out. I bought a 2020 Cadillac XT5 and have tried for hours to get the damn thing paired with my LiftMaster opener. I tried numerous different methods but only ended up sweating and with no success. I saw your video, ordered the adapter, received it and plugged it in and VOILA, within one minute I had it working. You solved the problem. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

You sir, are incredible! I’ve been struggling with this off and on for weeks and never found your video until last week. Ordered just a single option remote (for my opener mfd in 2012) and it worked like you said. Didn’t need the home link adapter but that’s ok. You gave me the idea to try a different opener. Thank you!

Thanks for this tip! I was getting so frustrated with my homelink not pairing. Turns out this solution works the other way around too (older homelink + newer garage opener). In my case I retrofitted a Gentex homelink rearview mirror pulled from an older 2012 vehicle to my car, and my Liftmaster MyQ garage door was newly installed in 2020. Picked up one of these repeaters and now the homelink on mirror is able to pair

Hi Eric as a matter of interest we had some problems with garage openers in the 80’s when CB radio was popular , you would get up in the morning to find your garage door open if a CB was on the same frequency it would activate your sensor but it was easy to change the code .

Thank you for this video. ALL the other videos say, "this is so easy...watch this." and boom it works. What a bunch of phonies. I called Homelink, they said to get a new garage door opener. I watched this video and afterward, I got it to work without buying anything. I guess what I was getting wrong was that I had to do exactly what you ended up doing in the video. Pair remote to Homelink. Then pair Homelink to LiftMaster in the ceiling. Based on all of the instructions and videos I had access to, I thought it was one OR the other. I had to do BOTH. Thanks again.

Hey jusy wanted to say thanks. Was having almost the same issue. My homelike was accepting the code of the remote but still wouldn't open the garage door. I used the step you used with pressing the learn button on the opener itself then coming back to the car and held the button already learned to the remote. And the garage door opened. Works great now! That extra step did the trick thanks.

Thank you for this video! I was going insane trying to figure out why my HomeLink on my '06 Accord Coupe would not connect to my garage door opener. I spent a couple hours and several times going through every step my owner's manual said to get it to link-no luck. Then I googled the issue and found this video. Of course, Eric The Car Guy had an answer. The other issue I ran into that others may as well is the HomeLink Compatibility Bridge cannot be close to any LED bulbs or it will cause interference with the radio frequencies. I have large LED lights on my garage door ceiling and when I connected the Bridge on the ceiling (close to the garage door opener) it would work randomly/intermittently. After a 45 minute Liftmaster support call they finally told me LED lights can cause interference. I put the Bridge in another outlet far from the ceiling and it worked just fine. That caution should be in their support materials.

@@joshuapinter No, the Homelink didn't work and here's why...after many hours of research and head scratching I finally solved the mystery. My 2013 Silverado is equipped with Car2You not a Homelink and the two program very differently. The way to tell them apart is the Car2You has an LED above every button, the Homelink has only one LED. The three buttons on the Car2You are designated to specific brands of openers. The button on the left is for Chamberlain, the middle button is for Liftmaster and the third I don't remember. I had to get a Car2You repeater to be able to program my Silverado. I was also able to program the house garage door (Genie). I'll try to find the link for the instructions.

Had the same problem with my 2015 Mazda CX5 and an older Genie. Was using a key fob type opener that came with the opener to try pairing, no dice! Worked couple hours, no dice! So I tried a sunvisor remote that also came with the opener. Worked the first time! Changing remotes did the job. I have no clue why. I love homelink and was one reason I bought that level of CX5 because it had homelink. Can control the opener and the secondary lights in my garage.

I had the same problem with an older garage door trying to program 2 cars. What I had to do is push the button in the actual door motor and program the things in the cars to it, just like you would do with a regular garage door opener. It worked for me, so it may be worth a try before you buy the extra stuff.

I had the same issue a few years ago and bought the same adapter. The signal was somewhat weak but it worked. I moved and left the adapter with the house. 2 years later I bought a house with a lift master that had the same issue, I decided the weak signal wasn’t worth the $35 and I just keep the opener in the ashtray and I get to open the door further away and waste my $35 on all the other things. Sad that liftmaster hasn’t resolved this issue.

  • @AricVogel

I had the same issue with the same solution when we replaced our old Sears opener with a brand new Chamberlain, the issue was the HomeLink in our cars was too old to support the newest rolling code technology (thus we needed that repeater). It isn't that great, as others mentioned the range is severely reduced and most of the time you have to hold the Homelink button down for like 5-10 seconds before it even responds. We'd have been better off buying a couple new remotes, even though it would have cost a little more.

I had a similar vehicle / opener combination but was able to get it to work using the learn button on the opener itself, just ran into limitations as to how many remotes/Homelink vehicles it would store. I think it maxed out at 4 remotes/Homelink vehicles that it would store before it started dropping them. ie. if you tried to learn remote #5 it would drop remote #1.

My remote garage door opener always works flawlessly. With every vehicle - any year, make, or model. The way it works is: I pull up to the garage door; my son gets out and opens the garage door; I pull the car into the garage; my son closes the garage door behind me. The only problem is that the warranty period expires in about 10 years.

Hey just another idea. Same opener, same system, same problem… but came to another solution that worked. This took some trial and error, but worth a shot. 1. Be far away from the garage door with the opener. Far enough that the programmed remote wouldn’t open the door. 2. Program your homelink mirror using the normal process. 3. Code accepted, return home and follow steps inside the garage to “learn” the new code (yellow button). 4. Press the homelink button in the vehicle to complete. Not sure how or why this works, but it did for me.

Interesting, I did not know that was a problem on newer model garage door openers. I have always paired the home link systems just simply by pressing the learn code button on the garage door opener and then pressing the button on the home link system a few times and that’s always seemed to work for me. I don’t even have to mess with the garage door clicker at all. I paired all of our cars with the home link system and I kept the clickers in my CR-V since that’s the only car that does not have a home link system.

Took forever to figure this out on my new Range Rover. Simply press and hold button 1 and 3 until it flashes amber and Homelink will reset! Then just program with the garage door opener. Thank you!!!

Strange… Bought a new 2019 Toyota 4Runner 2 years ago and programmed the homelink without issue. Just picked up a 2014 BMW Z4 this week and have been pulling my hair out wondering why it simply would not work. Weird how an older car isn’t working when a new car did. Especially since the garage doors and openers are well over 10 years old. Thanks for the video Eric! One question though… does this mean I have to buy one of these homelink bridges for each door?

Do you find this to be a problem with chamberlains? My remote looks the same as the LiftMaster but I have a Chamberlain.

So after getting that repeater, plugging it to an outlet and using the transmitter to program the Homelink and getting it to work, can that repeater and transmitter be kept away or should it stay plugged in?

Just a heads up Eric, if you have problems with range on your car or remotes or keypad change those LED bulbs out to regular bulbs some LEDs create a frequency and may interfere, a garage door guy lol PS your video made my day thanks

Do you need to keep that repeater/bridge plugged into an outlet at all times (even after the vehicle's homelink is set up)?

Yes… the repeater translates the signal into something the garage operator can understand

Question: I have dual garage door openers/ two bays with individual doors. Would one unit work for both or am I needing to buy one for each?

The older openers used borrowed frequency that was later then up and disabled any opener in proximity to many military bases. There is a less expensive solution, a Skylink 318TR Universal transmitter/receiver sold on Amazon.

It took forever for my 07 Lexus to work with chamberlain. Today it works but spotty. Somedays i can be at the street or i have to be right up to the door for it to open. Closing works just fine but i am usually just backed out.

You mention that the reason is due to the age of the LiftMaster remote prior to 2016. Could I just purchase a newer LiftMater remote? My local hardware stores do not carry the homelink adaptor. Thanks!

I have a Liftmaster 2008 manufacture date with the purple program button and a 2018 Audi S4 with side assist ....have to pull the 5amp fuse for side assist from trunk fuse box then program homelink with door opener procedure for all garage doors then replace the fuse. Liftmaster bridge would not work.....have to pull the fuse.

I would not recommend using a LED light bulb in your garage motor. The frequency of the LED light operates on can drastically affect the range capabilities of your garage opener when lit. I switched mine back to CFL and it improved quite a bit.
