Homeless in Vancouver Downtown Eastside East Hastings St and China town, Explore Vancouver's WORST
#ExploreVancouverCanada.
After couple weeks of decamping in DTES by the City's and Cops, the problem remains the same s.h.i.t. except there is less sense of urine smells. These guys are rooted here for decades and have nowhere to go....dislocating them is not the solution for this complex complication.
The Downtown Eastside (DTES) is a neighbourhood in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. One of the city's oldest neighbourhoods, the DTES is the site of a complex set of social issues including disproportionately high levels of drug use, homelessness, poverty, crime, mental illness and sex work. It is also known for its strong community resilience, history of social activism, and artistic contributions.

so many commentators have no idea how much they would end up like these people with no place to stay and no job. Once your body succumbs to malnutrition that you can't perform a shift for a job or maintain appearance and "working" people stop helping you and druggies rob you, you have nothing but struggling to cope or you commit suicide.

You do know these people that you said many would end up just like this without any jobs don’t exist in so many parts of the world right? I mean this happens mostly in the West and third world countries. It happens even in developed western countries because people allow this nonsense liberal thinking that a bit of drugs are ok. NOT ok in many countries. You know where I live has ZERO tolerance to guns and drugs of any kind? This wanting to “experiment” doesn’t include drugs at all. Drugs aren’t widely available either. Of course people would want to experiment if they are widely available. Way too casual. Doing drugs here is equivalent of committing a murder here. This too casualness is exactly why most western countries have this problem. And corruption is rampant in North America. Anyone can be bribed. Do you think this nonsense exists here? And I don’t live in authoritarian country either. It’s G7 country. Those countries that imitate America would go down hill just like American liberal states with wokeism no doubt. You know why? They got no morals. They are too greedy. Imagine running a country without morals with top 1% of billionaires running the country without a care for their own people who are poor. Yeah they open up the damn southern “borders” letting these illegal aliens even though their own people are suffering. Can’t get more stupid than that. I despise Biden and I feel sorry for most Americans. This is why Canada should not imitate any American liberal nonsense wokeism and should boycott the woke movement. Seriously. I lived right in Vancouver for years. Not anymore. The city is dead.

I used to live nearby actually for a few months. Right near the corner of the intersection between Union Street and Main Street. Often I walked up this way to get to Gastown and seeing what I witnessed as I do here in this video shocked me. A man told me one evening that he used to live under the bridge near my living area for the best part of 20 years. I couldn't believe it. He thinks that this community is practically holed up and kept where they are today because the police don't want them to branch out into other areas. Now I could be completely wrong, but in all honesty, because this was a man who suffered greatly for so long living near this area, I'd be inclined to believe him. Vancouver is like the Roman god Janus. It has beauty, but matched in parts by the horrors from within.

@grvl
50 tysięcy poszukiwanych w stosunkowo niewielkim i gęstym w miastach, kraju...

In Montreal downtown, the side doors of the bay, full of homeless people and stink. Now even the residential metro stations live some homeless and dirty up the stations. Most of them take drugs right on the spot. Very sad to see the government lets this happen.

Went to Chinatown of Vancouver the day before yesterday, saw this too...really sad. I just don't understand how there can be so many homeless people in Vancouver. With an incompetent government running the country. Wiping out the middle class and relentless rise on cost of living. For a couple who makes over 150k a year before taxes living very modestly in Richmond. I am telling you, we are not living comfortably. We ain't struggling but by no means having the extra $$ to do things we want. Just imagine how minimum wage people live. I don't think it's doable to make minimum wage and put a roof over their head.

This area of Vancouver is skid row and has been like this since I can remember back to the 70s . This didn’t just happen 5 years ago. Its ALWAYS been full of drugs, drunks , junkies, stabbings, robberies, thefts etc etc.
@suefrench8721

Further back than the 70's and nothing was done about it. European countries ie. Netherlands, Switzerland dealt with the same problems. AT LEAST FORTY YEARS AGO. But Canada has too many judgmental large "C" Christians who just want these people to magically disappear without spending a cent. And where are the billionaires? Two or three together with mental health and addiction specialists could put paid to this problem and give these people a better and healthier life. Most Canadians would not allow animals to live like this. But these "sickos" don't deserve a hand up according to the majority of people. Shameful !!

@@suefrench8721 There is help for those who seek it, Sue. The problem with opiate addiction is that the body becomes dependent on the dope for its dopamine supply, which occurs naturally otherwise. There is no feeling "okay" without dopamine. Now throw the life-threatening & agonizing withdrawal symptoms into the picture, and you should see why the solution isn't as simple as you make it out to be. An "addiction specialist" may lead a horse to water but can't make him drink.

Covid polarized, nothing wrong/conspiracy vs prevention, wear your mask, etc. Politics polarize (esp. 2 party choices). News broadcasts polarize: fake and/or biased vs informative/truthful. Racial polarization White vs Non-white. And so many examples.. Us vs Them. Empathy and compassion eroded to Selfishness and other ugly human natures. Who ever said, I paraphrase, Look at how a community takes care of their vulnerable members and much will be revealed.....

A complex and distressing problem. I would like to see the subject of personal economics taught from primary school onwards. Moved from Vancouver in '93. Even then, there were times when "I shouldn't be here" was a thought that crossed my mind.
