Homeless: Eviction - BBC London News

Thousands of families in the capital are facing eviction, some just before Christmas. They say they feel "helpless and confused by the system". Charities are now calling on councils to intervene earlier to support families in social housing struggling to manage their money before it reaches the point of homelessness. Chris Rogers reports.

Whats difficult to understand? You pay your rent. As they keep on breeding, they are getting more money. What on earth do they do with it? Landlords have mortgages to pay. If you can't afford rent, move somewhere cheaper. Then they moan when they get more free accommodation? Get a job and better yourself out of it. Stop breeding!!

Do they think the owner of the property they were renting, should have started paying the mortgage on hus property out of pocket? It’s a business...an investment. Too many people create several children and then try to figure out how to feed and house them afterward. Other people cannot be expected to create funding to house irresponsible people and the children they create. They have it backward. They seem to have an entitlement expectation that the housing authorities owe them a place to live. You secure yourself with a dependable partner, and then have children after you have got your poop in a group. I wish them the best, all of these people, but their predicament is self made.

A landlord must pay for the property, tax, insurance and upkeep. Usually a property manager is hired to collect the rent and organize maintenance. Tenants have no vested interest in the property and often cause expensive damage to the dwelling. Look at how this family is living. The home is a mess. The landlord usually breaks even on the rent, making a profit when he sells the property. Now that benefits are no longer paid directly to the landlord, often times he loses several months rent before he can force an eviction through the high court (another expense). If you were the landlord, I can guarantee that you would lose interest in working with the council within a short time. It's not the money-maker that you think it is.

The government should not be paying housing benefits direct to tenants, they should be going direct to the landlords. How dare tenants keep free money given to them to house them and they complain when they’re evicted. This could only happen in Britain and why this country is a joke and overrun with people who have no desire to work.

I cannot understand how people manage to get into huge arrears with Social Housing rent. Some arrears and arrange a payment plan sure,💩 happens, but to continually do it is crazy, you will never get cheaper housing. If you get unemployed then apply for H.B, if you are on a low wage there are to p ups, rent should be the first priority followed by food and bills, the only thing I can think of is that they are spending the debt money elsewhere.

These people have been incredibly irresponsible by spending their housing benefit on something other than their rent. They were incredibly lucky to have social housing many thousands in temporary accommodation would give anything to be offered it but you have to show that you you are sensible and live within your means. So on this occasion I have no sympathy for the man as he got himself into this situation but feel very sorry for his wife and kids whom he should have protected. Before I get cries of protest NO I am not some rich Tory. I live frugally in social housing being severely disabled but I always pay rent then food then bills. Keeping a roof over you and your families heads is the most important thing.

This person is just one of millions of homeless families and the world is really going astray, we humans who do not even have mercy on our fellow human beings, why should God have mercy on us? . Instead of crying and pretending to be a loved one, let 's educate ourselves with our income and raise our level of thinking to a global level to shout out to the embarrassed global community. Let's show our protest with a few tweets every day, with a few simple messages, so that little by little, these protests will be added and the international community will think about a fundamental change in its path. We can help big campaigns to fight homelessness with big tweets. We can take care of the homeless, help them find jobs, help educate them, with a few tweets. We, who live comfortably in our homes, live comfortably in warm weather, owe at least this to them.

very difficult situation for the families. all these people should get support from social services or a support worker. people appear ill equipped to deal with life these days but look at my parents generational model - second world war, depression, evacuation and severe austerity with no welfare state. they were resourceful and self reliant, no credit. no money - you went without. psychologists should study these generational problems and advise us on how to resolve these issues and recognise a problem going from amber light to red light prior to the crisis and crash. some harsh judgements from other subscribers bur its a case of compassion overload too many times i think for peoole perpertuatng the same problems over and over again. kudos to the dad travelling from purfleet to the school with kds every day. super dad! charities have lsot so much funding and rely so uch on the public to volunteer or donate. when ive volunteered i was abused and exploited by charities who gave me case loads for a full week despite the fact that i could only volunteer 4 or 5 hours a week due to health problems. no proper traiing no supervision and no support. i got burnt out.
