HomeKit Adaptive Lightings Hands On - Philips Hue

Ғылым және технология

HomeKit Adaptive Lighting was one of the few HomeKit related updates announced this year at WWDC, and while we have seen the rest of them come to fruition in iOS 14, Adaptive Lighting was not present in any Beta nor in the final release.
This is because Adaptive Lighting required firmware updates on the manufacturers side, meaning it wasn’t just a simple software update on Apple’s side.
Now that it is finally available with Philips Hue lights and Eve lightstrip, we dive in to how to set it up and how it works!

Thanks for the great video on this! Curious, do you know at what intervals Hue makes adjustments to the color temp throughout the day? Based on some testing here and also what I've found online, it seems to only have 3 set points for morning, afternoon and evening which is a bit disappointing. I had hoped there would be more frequent and a wider range of changes throughout the entire day. Also, totally agree with you that morning and evening color temps should me MUCH warmer. On a separate note, I would love to see ramp rates introduced for switches - ability to set how long it takes to dim or brighten. Greatly miss this feature from Insteon devices!

You can use shortcuts to create your own “adaptive lightning” scenario.

Either install a VPN on your router that the Bridge is connected to and do the update. Or connect the bridge to your computers Ethernet port and share the VPN connection in network settings to get the update

If the CCT goes UP the light gets more blue. If CCT goes DOWN the light goes more orange. The fact that we call orange light “warmer” and whiter light “cooler” is the oppositie from how CCT’s were derived. Imagin heating up an iron rod. It will glow orange first and will get towards white blue at its hottest point.
