Damn, if you sang as hard as she did for as many years your voice would not sound the same. Once she said she intentionally sang her songs hard so no one would else could easily sing them, she did and sometimes she can’t even resign her own, but she songs great to me anyway. Saw her live in Vegas and not all songs were pre recorded, still her voice❤️u could tell when she sang live though

She was doing a bit better here than 2006, if I'm being honest. All I could say is that she was doing worse here than the mid 90's, though this isn't her worst, and besides, she recovered by 2001, and even more so by 2003

I don’t know if I’d describe her current voice as a something “bad” but her voice didn’t lose its overall consistency until close to mid 2010s. Mariah always had a damaged instrument so that rasp we hear so clearly now has always been there but at the time it was only at the top of her register. Why? Because of her nodules.

Her tone in 1999/2001 was the best she ever had. It was immaculate : sweet/ smokey/ full of emotions and extremely well controled. Everything she sang at that time had more meaning than any other moment in her career. I dont know why but I always felt like her 'rainbow era tone' was the way she was singing like as a little girl....

VOL is the song that will let you tell the current state of Mariah's vocals because this song is that one song she will never lip. I guess she decided to never lip it ever cause this is like her way of reminding everyone that she is a vocalist. Much like a strong statement. Btw, the rainbow tone will always be my favorite of hers. It's buttery, extremely girly and pleasant to the ears. The rasp is there but you can only hear it on the sweet spots. The fluidity of her runs especially in this song ia daydream-esque. Aside from that, this is really the start of her beauty peak. I mean she's a beautiful woman from the very start, but the Rainbow and Glitter eras, she looks like Hollywood's ultimate IT GIRL.

Her voice today is more robust and stronger in some areas, but less agile and less range. I think she could do a nice job with this arregement.
