Just ram across the vid, nice!! It was probably showing 5ohm because you had it on its face. Impedance should always be checked speaker facing up with no pressure on the speaker

I did the exact same thing for my 8in powered Sony subwoofer enclosure with the exact same skar audio 8 in. It dramatically improved the sound quality and the base is actually deeper then before. I can actually increase the gain on the back of the subwoofer box and as stated above, it sounds phenomenal. Thank you for the video. My home theater subwoofer is like brand new again.

I bought the 8-in skar four or eight ohm I didn't need it but good to know that they are a great replacement boxed up and ready to use when needed did not bother to return. You always need a couple Skar 8 and 10 in. Lying around when the zombie apocalypse happens right.

Lucky I found this video I am doing the exact same thing but with a Logitech z506 subwoofer. These sets of speakers by Logitech are phenomenal if they recorded it you're going to hear it so I hope the speaker holds up. Thanks for the wiring diagram I have a voltage meter I might or I will check it like you did because they're two different brands and I don't know how the amps work for the difference if there is any. But I'll be doing everything you did thanks again good video.

@@dixirkt I found out it was the speaker hitting the grill definitely sound like a blown speaker. Took a screw put it in one of the holes and pulled it out the grill that is no more problems. Put it in storage as a spare they are hard to come by. Thanks for letting me know about the Yamaha speaker though I will keep that as a record because if they were good in that box they will probably sound good everywhere and I love Yamaha products for audio all my surround sound setups or Yamaha amps in my house with Klipsch speakers. Outstanding for movies but not so much for music I don't think the answer made for the music side. Anyway I've worked out 300 bucks that's a hundred bucks less than everybody else is selling them for brand new z906 I love these speakers this whole setup including software is so much better. Something to think about even has a remote control for those pesky phone calls.

@@davolbc forgot to mention that I bought it through Facebook and the seller neglected to mention that a mouse crawled in thru the port then couldn't get back out so he chewed his way out via the speakers cone. Tricky! Anyway I was broke so I patched up a hole about the size of a quarter with paper mache. Let it dry out for two days then put it to the test every day for the next 2 years and it tested! Believe it or not man I sh*t you not

Well that was pretty resourceful and you got two more years out of that speaker wow I guess that's a story I'll have to tell my grandchildren haha. Glad you're hooked up now. I have a pair of JBL home speakers, 2 way one 8 inch woofer and a tweeter on each. The 8 in woofer is weak on one and the other buzzes at higher volume. Think I'd be able to throw two of these skar woofers in? They're 8 ohm speakers, so I'll just get the 4 ohm dvc skars and wire to 8ohms. Idk if it'd work, but if it would, it'd sure make these speakers pretty kickass

I have a pc subwoofer that splits into a rca for 2 pc speakers, the sub doesn’t hit hard enough so I was thinking to buy a 12v amp and drill a hole in the box for a new subwoofer and run the power though the box so in theory the box holds a different subwoofer that’s powered buy an amp and the box itself powers the 2 pc speakers should this work. friend, my question is, my suwoofer sounds distorted or scratched as we say here with my 5.1 kinyo, the satellites good, but the bass sounds ugly, I already rewind the original and it started to sound bad again, it is a kinyo R565 6.5 inches, 60W , I do not know if it is a lot for that speaker or it needs one more wattage that does not distort it, I do not know if I can put more watts in a car and that it does not spoil the amplifier, the original reference is 4 oh 60w, but only 25 percent of the amp starts to distort bass. Skar is a great choice. It has a much better bass response than the factory woofer.

this Skar Audio IX-8 D2 8" 300 Watt sub. has NO competition in its price range. and even more expensive subwoofers don't perform as well as this one. the 2-ohm version wired at 4 ohms is the best option for home audio. you just can't find a better subwoofer for 40$.

I bought this sub after video as I have the same Yamaha enclosure... only question, what guage wire did ya use?

So I have an old Jensen 12" that has a blown sub. The sun doesn't say how many ohms it is. It's about 20-25 years old. Should I assume it's 8 ohm? I bought a goldwood 12" 8ohm that's arriving soon. Edit: they only had it in 4 or 8, single voice coil I assume because it only has the 2 leads. Hopefully if it's 6 the 8 should be ok since there are no 6ohm versions. These goldwood are what's used in alot of lower end ones and as far as I know mine was only like 100-125 watts anyway when new. The goldwood is 240 so should be safe there I hope

Phen0mable as long as you have an amplifier that can deliver the proper amount of power to your sub you should be alright. Besides needing a converter to convert to sound for home audio instead of car audio but most of the time your amplifier should give you access to those settings. You'll also want to set your gains and balance out your highs and lows. Car audio subwoofers when placed in home audio systems seem to overpower the rest of the system causing a lot of distortion. So you'll want to balance out the gains and what not so you can skip that effect. You'd also want to tune your system to your house and the speaker to the box it's in. That way your getting the maximum output possible without distortion from both your speakers and your amplifier. If your amplifier isn't strong enough you'll hear distortion caused from burning up the amp. If your speakers are too weak you'll be destroying them. If your not concerned about true audio quality I would suggest just Makin sure that your amp is powerful enough for the sub and to make sure you balance out the sub with the rest of the system

Its a dual voice coil subwoofer. they come in sets Coil 1 + & - Coil 2 + & - The diagram has the blue wire going from "coil 1's -" to "coil 2's +". You then connect "coil 1's" + and "coil 2's -" to the amplifier. He's doing it this way to bring the final ohm load up to 4ohms. something must amplifiers can handle Hope that helped

Maybe not louder, but certainly cleaner, much higher quality over the factory woofer since we have the same internal amp pushing the new 8"

Those are not drill holes, those are for the grill....

I had this problem with a 8" mirage powered sub. I decided on a Miller Kreisler 8" as a replacement. The results had me changing out my perfectly fine Polk 505 and another Mirage 12 with m&k's as-well. I'm not familiar with skar audio but do know the way they advertise and the availability reminders me of Boss audio in the 90's leading me to believe it is "Sub-Par" as the joke goes.

Skar stuff is way better than Boss haha. All their amps make at or more than advertised power and all their subs can take at or more than rated power. Also, I had the PSW505 and above around 32-34 HZ it absolutely slammed!. Under that hz though?? SO MUCH port noise. It was crazy terrible. That's why I had to get rid of mine haha.

After break in period sounds great in my z906 logitech. Can handle the power of the amp just fine. Doesn't overheat the amp. Had to modify the box a bit for the push terminals to fit. Sounds great alongside the Rockford fosgate tweeters I added to it also.

I don't really think the subwoofer speaker cares where it gets its juice from so I don't really understand the question? The only difference I know of between active and passive is that with an active subwoofer you send a signal and the subwoofer has the amplifier in the box or somewhere attached to it whereas a passive is just a box with a speaker in it and you have to run speaker wire to your amplifier that controls your speakers. Hope that helps. If you do go passive with a subwoofer with no amplifier that you connected to the proper connection at the back of the amp for subwoofer because the amplifier is going to have a crossover in it for the right signal your base and low end to go to that speaker only. You can't just wire it into your left or right speaker output on the back of an amp. I mean you could but you're going to get all frequencies and all you really want are the sub frequencies.

You would have to cut to fit a larger woofer. The performance of the sub depends on the ouptut of the amp. So unless you get a better internal amp, it will make no difference adding a more powerful sub.

When you get a replacement sub, you want to make sure the new one is within the same wattage as the old. You don't want to put in a 300 watt sub into a 50-100 watt amp. It won't have the power to drive it. Gotta get one that can be driven, but can handle it allot better than the old.

Cross shopped these, but they only seem to play down to 45hz or so.

45 Hz isn't bad though. My sub only kicks in at 60 Hz, but sounds great. Might replace it with this on though.

I did the opposite lol I moved a 12 inch 8 ohm Yamaha subwoofer amp to my carbon audio PA sub enclosure and made a custom control panel from the existing controls! It’s a short term fix for the amp that blew and I’ve just been struggling to find someone who know how to fix it. I’m in central Washington state if anyone can direct me to a repair shop I’d appreciate it!

All depends on our ohm load and power output of the amplifier. If you want to install an 8 inch, you may need to cut the enclose to fit, but a bigger speaker may need more air space, so a lot of variables there.

There is a difference between single voice and dual voice coils. All depends on the sub you want at the right impedance stable by the built in amp.

From what I've read the OEM speaker is 6 ohms so putting in a 4 ohm when the amplifier is designed to push into a 6-ohm would mean to me be careful that you adjust the sub properly which means don't push it hard because it's going to give you sound at a lower volume than you are used to. You should be okay I would do it just remember don't put it on 11 or you're going to blow the speaker again. I think you're probably better off following the video and going dual coil 8 ohm.

@@ivanborruel the best way I can explain it is I wouldn't put a 4 amp fuse when it requires a 6 amp because you're going to keep blowing at high levels the 4 amp fuse. Glad you're happy with your speaker I can't wait to hear mine I got the same one. Enjoy

Just in case this one doesn't work out I'd like to have another option and it sounds like you found the right speaker because these Logitech setups are really really good. You said it sounds amazing and if it holds up to what the original subwoofer in this box sounded like it's a winner. But I had previously purchased the dual 4 Ohm coil 8" from Skar here in America. If it doesn't hold up to the quality of the original speaker I will purchase the one you sent me the information on thank you very much for doing that. Now let me copy that information you sent me and email it to myself so I don't lose it LOL.

I have a yamaha yst-sw305 and one of the 8 inch rattles. Would I be able to replace both subs with 2 car subs? It has a 200 watts Amp driving both subs with 12 ohm rating on both subs.

Yes, probably the best to do both. Most likely the Ohm load on the amplifier is around 4-6 ohms with two SVC 12ohm subs wired in parallel. If you wired two DVC subwoofers together (like the same sub we used), you would have to wire each sub in series, then wire each sub together in parallel to achieve a 4 ohm load final. Wire up in 4ohm will do just fine, Most amp can drive 4 ohm except some vintage tube amp.

Buy a dual 4 ohm and wired it in series configuration. Google series wiring on 4ohm. It will give u an 8 ohm load at the amplifier.

exactly what im going to do with my old jbl scs 75 sub. The amp can give it 2x 40watts rms at 4 ohms. I think it will rock. I wanted to get on of the more powerfull 8 inch skar subs but this one suited my amp best.

But the video shows me hooking up the wiring to the sub, so not sure what you are missing?
