great job, this guy knows his stuff and takes the confusion out with a very straightforward approach. i was confused about using a Y-cable to L/R jacks on the back of the subwoofer but now it seems ....correct me if i'm wrong.....i can go with a basic single RCA jack into either the left OR the right input jack and it makes no difference.

Thanks for your video .For Yamaha receivers YPAO sub level calibration it’s recommended that level post calibration should be around zero to 3 . after reviewing sub level in first calibration You can tweak sub volume by on second calibration to fall into the 0 to 3 range.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist 1 last thing when you have time chick out the Definitive Technology CS9060 Center Channel. I want it but do i still need a Receiver or can i just run it with my TV?
Finally a video on using multiple subs that is actual informative and not filmed with a smudged cell phone camera. One question...one of my subs uses speaker wire and the other uses the connection you showed (the one you can get as a "Y" splitter), I already have one connected but I'm not sure how to connect the one that uses speaker wire. Any suggestions? I have a Yamaha RX-V679BL

I do have a question about the sub cable: the info I gathered tells me the sub can be placed anywhere in the room- what if I want the receiver and sub on opposite ends of room? Thanks so much for the great video! One thing I'm a bit confused on is if you set your crossover in your receiver to 80, what do you actually physically set the knob to on the subwoofer itself to ensure it doesn't interfere with what you said in the receiver settings? Thanks in advance!
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
5 жыл бұрын
Set it above what ever setting you choose. For example if your receiver is set at 80Hz then set the subwoofer at 100hz that way you know the subwoofer is playing everything the receiver is sending.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist thanks so much!
Quick question.. I dont have a receiver.. but I wanted to know is it possible to hook my 8 inch theater solution to just my TV and let it power it that way or does it need more power to actually make the sub work... The sub have a "left and right" input and the cord you mentioned "male and female 2x.. the TV outputs have 1 Arc hmdi, 2 HDMI, 1 optical digital out: which is hooked to the soundbar... And components av 6 I believe..is it possible to run the left and right out of the components into the power based subwoofer left and right "in".. I turned it on and I don't here much of anything.. so what ever solution you have will be grateful..
Please I want to know more about using the RCA splitter for a multiple subs.... Coz I have tried it with my two subs (Onkyo and Sony)but they don't sound very well like using only one sub

GREAT VIDEO!!! Very well explained. Can you help with my specific situation. I have a Denon 3806 receiver and a polk audio HTS 12 sub. On the back of the Denon receiver, there is a white RCA port for SW pre-out. There is also a white RCA port for SW Ext. IN. On the back of the sub, i have two options as well. The first is a single black RCA port that says LFE. The other option is a red and white RCA port that says LINE IN. How should I be connecting my sub to the receiver and how many wires will I need? If its to the LFE then I assume its just 1 RCA cable but if its to line in, will I need a Y cable on the sub side of the connection to hook into both red and white? Thanks in advance!
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m not totally sure on this one but I would connect the white SW PRE-out to the black Lfe port. Make sure the volume is low and try some sub heavy music. If that doesn’t work try the other option. Hope this helps!
Best explanation for the novice. 😊

Great video. I’m confused about the left right ports on the back of the subwoofer. So I just need to use just either the left or right port? Right now I have a double headed rca cable running from the subwoofer to the Yamaha av receiver (RX-A780). Thanks for any help.

Typically I use just one but if you have a dual ended cable it should work fine.
I have an issue where for content say regular TV where there is no DTS 5.1 track like there is on blu rays which sound fine, the audio has far less bass and the sub seems to kick in and out i can hear the click off when more bass comes in to the signal. is there a way to get more of the signal in to the sub by default for this kind of content. or is this just a crossover setting on the amp to increase?
Very good
This is great thank you

Any advice for how to eat up heights on a vaulted ceiling? Undecided on weather or not to use in ceiling speakers or just mountable. Mountable would be preferable because I have a T&G wood ceiling but I want the best sound possible 🤷♂️

I have a 2 channel stereo receiver with A + B speaker settings and want to run a 2.2 stereo system. I have 2 subs on the way from a Black Friday sale and was wonder if I can run basic speaker wire into a Y connector then into the LFE or Line In on the back of the subs?
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
Жыл бұрын
I don't think so, I'm not aware of a speaker level to line level connector.
There are two line in/ sub in inputs on your sub. Which one do you plug the cable into? Also, on my integrated amplifier I have two sub/ line out inputs. Which one do I plug the cable into at that end?
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
5 жыл бұрын
Either connection should work, if it doesn't try the other. Mono signal is fine for a subwoofer.
Thanks for the informative video. My Onkyo TX-NR686 does not have a large or small speaker option, just says "full band, or set crossover depending on speaker size". All my low signals go to the mains and center, and almost none to my sub. My Fluance DB 12's do not have an lfe, just line in. Have the crossover on sub all the way up, phase on "regular" and even with volume 3/4 up, almost no bass. The cable is plugged into subwoofer pre out on AVR, and into line in on sub with a Monoprice sub cable. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks.
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
4 жыл бұрын
When you run the Onkyo speaker calibration do you hear audio from the sub when it sends a test sound to th sub? If not you may not be getting audio to the sub, first I’d switch cables then maybe inputs on the sub if you have multiple inputs, then try the same on the Onkyo if you have multiple sub outputs. If you are getting sound during auto calibration you could also try setting your speakers crossover setting to 80Hz instead of “Full band”. That will send more bass signal to the sub.
Thanks for the video sir. Does it matter where i plug my rca cable coming from the receiver into the subwoofer do i use the white or red input
@HomeTheaterHobbyist

You can use either one, red or white.

Great video, quick question I have a Yamaha RX-V479 receiver and push Andrew Jones (front, towers and bookshelves speakers and a Polk Audio subwoofer PSW10. I have one sub out if I run another subwoofer with the splitter you talked about will that sperate the bass? Or will they both kick hard? Just curious, new to this world.

Running dual subs will yield a more even response, meaning the bass will be more consistent in different seats. If you can go dual... definitely do it 👍🏾
I have done this also with rca y connectors but you starve the subs plate amp a lil on voltage signal , still a cool trick , check out how i connect a powersub to be in better phase with your front speakers Paul at P.S. Audio agrees with me how i hook up for 2 channel music listing ,But HT yes this is how i would hook up good job !

Assuming a person is using identical subs, the settings for multiple subs should be the same. The one exception is possibly volume but otherwise there the same. The purpose of multiple subs is to get even bass response throughout the room regardless of seating position. With a single sub there can be dips in the response due room geometry, furniture placement, etc. So properly placing multiple subs can even out the room modes and allow multiple seating positions to have the same level of enjoyment. Hopefully this answers the question.
