If you have a home recording studio, you may have noticed that your mixes sound completely different whenever you play them away from your desk. One possible reason for this is the position of your studio monitors. In this episode of Making Waves, we’ll cover the best (and worst) places to put your studio monitors for an accurate playback of your mix.

Coming from a 2 day binge of watching production videos, I found this one to be refreshing and to the point. Well done!
I learned something from this! Thanks David
What if the short wall opposite the monitors has a glass door with a slight opening? Would a noise-cancelling (heavy) curtain in front of it be a good idea?
Cool! Thanks for sharing!
Love the videos man. Thank you
Very nice infos! Thanks lot!
thank you!great video
Whoa, this setup is rad! I'm building a pro solar-powered studio in the back of a box truck..... it's coming together, but space is a bit of an issue. Hopefully I can make mine as awesome as yours! Thanks for the video 🤘
great video! just subscribed. now if i can only figure out how to make desk space for my monitors... lol
Thank you
Funny video! Very important to "Hearing the audio as clearly as possible" Then why would you use KRK Rockit? They are very coloured and not clear.
I have a question, what about room with a window? I have a space that has a large window. My instinct was to put my desk at that wall and have my monitors on either side firing away from the window. But this happens to be the widest wall in the room. Should I consider ignoring that instinct and putting the monitors on the shortest wall as mentioned in this video and just have the window at my side? Are windows a serious reflection point?
may you please explain your setup and cable management?
If I’m hooking up my mpc x to my desktop computer how will I use monitors on my iMac
What about windows? The shortest wall in my room is opposite a window so in that instance would it be better to go with the longest wall?
The width of my room is 3 meters and length 7 meters but I placed my studio speakers behind me lower than my ear but I made my own stand and the tweeters facing upwards towards my ears it does play beautiful but any other advice for me for better sound
What's the size of your studio monitors
what about an attic room with one inclined side of the wall?
I saw someone using monitors placed horizontally, does it have a particular result or is it quite the same?

with some monitors you can do it (check what manufactuerer says), but most of the time it effects your stereo perception
Is 38% the location of the monitors or the listening position?
I just got the Yamaha Hs8. My room is the medium out of the three bedrooms but seems pretty small because I feel ear fatigue . My monitor sound is at the lowest and i dont have any treatment for the room yet. Any advice?

Kazi Muhammad Shabab get room treatment
How can you sound proof your home studio if their is a window right next to your microphone that faces a noisy street?
I can't get accurate sound when I record vocal in software if I import to mp3 then that sounds like dirty
i have a small room! how can i avoid the reflection?

You definitely should look into acoustic treatment to help dampen those reflections in a small space. We did a video about it called "Do You Need Acoustic Treatment For Your Home Studio? : Making Waves with David Day" Hope this helps :)
HEY! I have a question: I will buy a speaker for my studio and i have to speakers in my mind (krk rokit 5 or krk rokit 6).Which one is better for produce??
I have done this instructions , but still one side is louder than the other , i switched cables , changed speaker's place i mean left to right and right to left , moved them another place , i'm so confused , i have to mention the room isn't symmetrical at all

Probably window settings
What if your monitors have those bass ports in the rear. I'm getting huge heavy bass buildup on my rear back wall. I have bass traps on all four corners. Up
What if the room has an angled ceiling?

A lot of problems are caused by parallel walls, but corners can still cause bass build ups. So, for angled ceilings, I've seen some home studios with a floating acoustic panel, sometimes referred to as a "cloud", directly above the listening position to mitigate any reflections and bass buildups overhead. It's definitely something worth looking into! Thanks :)

It is good, cause it can avoid flutter echoes
The Equator Monitors are better because these monitors are coaxial and both the tweeter and woofer are together. And not to worry about the separation of the frequency

What about an L shaped room? Mine is L shaped. With huge windows

It's hard to say exactly what to do without seeing a layout of where you've placed everything, but you'll definitely want to dampen any reflections coming from parallel walls with acoustic treatment. And try to setup your desk in front of the short wall, so the soundwaves have a longer distance before hitting the back wall (and ultimately back to your ears). Glass can give an annoying, bright "slapback" sound, so if covering them with acoustic treatment isn't an option, at least try to get some heavy drapes in front of them to kill some of the reflection. I've heard some people say that glass is typically "okay" if it's behind the monitors, so, keep that in mind. But definitely making sure your desk is in front of a short wall is the priority. I hope this helps!
what the heck, this dude has my name and I own studio monitors..
Thanks Double D.. Very informative .. (*_*)
It's not called an apex. It's called a vertex. Setting your listening position directly at the triangle vertex is not correct. I'm tired of everyone saying this and not really thinking about it. The Stereo Vertex Point (the focused point where the speakers are aimed behind your head) should be 14" min. to 16" max. from your Listening Position (ear line). If you map out room nulls, then the 38% rule does not work for any room length less than 14'-0"
How about we just use good quality headphones? Would that eliminate the need for all of these?
Can i put the monitors infront of Windows?

You should get some thick curtains the dampen the reflections
you dont level twitter with your ears, you level monitors axis with your ears, big difference...
