The clay is Surround WP, available from various sources. Be sure to use a sprayer that can handle kaolin clay suspension.

I usually plant around 200 plants at a time and I try to keep them along the edge of my plots along my long driveway. This allows me to keep an eye on the size and also have the quad close as they are very heavy. If they are out in the middle of a plot, I tend to forget about them and I end up with a bunch of un- marketable fruit. I plant way more than I can usually sell here on the farm so that I always have some when hot weather shuts down or slows fruit set. I can sell excess fruit to local venders at near retail price. Powdery mildew can wipe out the entire planting but neem oil will kill it. I have had several plantings last from spring till frost in the fall using neem oil.

I had a bumper crop 2 years ago and started making zucchini refrigerator pickles. Sure glad I did because last year was horrible.

I struggle to grow these in desert in Riverside County, Calif. Hope this video helps me figure out why. I miss having an abundance to make relish.
