Been thinking of options to put a cover over my patio such as having a pergola or even a wood decked roof over it with shingles but this might actually be the better, AND CHEAPER option.

My wife and I put it up in 1 weekend. It was about $1,200 2 years ago. It has allowed us use the patio 85% of the year and extends the life of my BBQ grills and covers

@@paulm850 how difficult was it to attach to the house and did you have to use flashing to prevent it from leaking water between the house roof and the patio cover? I have enlarged my patio from a 10x16 to a 12x18 and need something to cover it to allow use on those hot sunny days, or days when it rains. One other question. Will the sides of the awning support anything being hung from them? I would want to hang two retractable bamboo curtains, one on each end to block out the early morning and late afternoon sun and would like to know if the cover is sturdy enough to handle that?

The side could hold the bamboo shades with no problem. I lag bolted the initial support to the facia board where the truss meets. The caulk that comes with the kit is awesome and the instructions cover all aspects of waterproofing. I had enough overhang on my metal roof attached the mount 1/2" directly under the flashing and caulked the top of the mount.

Thank you for the video. How tall did you go with the posts? The manufacturer recommends a minimum of eight (8) feet.

7' for the posts since my soffit is 7'8". 5-6" of fall for 10'. Plus the lower roof line keeps the bright morning sun off the side of the house.

I had no idea that Home Depot was selling these, I used to install these all the time. They really aren't that hard if you have a second person helping, But the size you have. I would have been able to put it up in less than 6 hours by myself,

It has held up great for the past 3 years. With my wife and I putting it up and it being our first time doing one, about 10-12 hrs on a weekend was well worth the time;)

Would have been better if it covered the entire back, where the dining table is and about feet 6 feet further out.

Our original patio was 12x20. With the 2' overhang of the soffit, I ordered a 10×20 cover so I could use existing slab for the posts. The paver patio was installed after the fact. We enjoy the natural light into our bedroom, so covering the other side was not preferred. And to think this whole back yard project started due to heavy rains washing out our backyard, and my love for BBQ lol!
