Great breakdown. Learned a lot. Never noticed how the mom goes on her own hero's journey in the film You-Doesn't appreciate her youngest independence Need- Wanting separation (sending him up stairs) becomes literal separation on the plane. Go- Leaves the rest the family to get home early Search- Cancelations & other obstacles end her path Find- Finds a polka van going through to her destination Take- This is a literal long journey & she is loosing up by force Return- She did it we are here Change- She & the rest the family are all impressed how his independence saved the day. Boom. Thanks for breaking it into digestible chunks. This video should have 5x views.

Love it! Didn't know about the Story Circle. It certainly looks simpler than other versions of the same thing. Cheers, look forward to more.

I like your analysis a lot but I prefer Campbell’s original journey to adventure because it gives specific situations that are surprisingly easy to spot in movies. Like for example the call to adventure , in the case of home alone it is found in the scene where the burglars come check out the house the first time and after that he goes down to the basement and announces that he is not afraid thus accepting the call to adventure.

That furnace bit is pretty textbook encounter and assimilation of the unconscious self, which a bunch of breakdowns characterize that halfway mark as.

This has been very helpful. Could you please do a video where you analyze another comedy movie? And it will be great if you could breakdown some more movies based on the Hero's Journey (ideally one with many supporting characters)

So what's with the rotten tomatoes score? Did the critics not like lit because some parts of the film looked, and sounded artificial?
