Holzfforma G372 XP Milling Failure: Teardown & Next Steps

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What route I should take in rebuilding this saw and what advice do you all have on how to avoid blowing it up again.
This is a Holzfforma G372 XP from 2019. I had two Archer milling chains to mill this rather large spruce tree and a limited amount of time, so I swapped the chains back and forth and pushed through so I could get my hog pen done before the piglets arrived. Saw never really ran great and I adjusted the carb several times to try to get it to run right.
Two new Granberg milling chains arrived and I tuned the carb again and started on another large spruce after making the first cut the saw would not start back up. Checked carb screws they were around two full turns on the low and hi screws. No amount of of adjusting could get the saw to start again so figured it was time to take the top end apart.

The hlic carb that comes on it is junk. Will not hold a tune. Probably the reason your saw self destructed. Went lean and got to hot. I replaced mine with a motul or something like that off amazon and worked fine. The walbro copy that come on the white version has good reviews. Lol, as I'm writing you've got a original in your hand.

Like other guys are saying. Saw got to hot. When milling with chainsaw. Crucial to let it cool down between cuts. Personally, I think your saw is a little under powered. Yours will do. Especially if its softwood but if your getting into hardwoods. If afraid you may be doing this again. If your going to go blue. Id get me the clone of the Stihl 661.

@@justinpeterson9734 thanks for the feedback I’ll be getting into ash trees in the not to distant future. I’d like to find a Husky 395 or maybe a clone but if I get another clone say the g888 looks interesting. Not sure that will be this year though.

Milling is hard on saws. Run a richer oil/fuel mix. 40.1 or 32.1. That blue saw is a little of you get what pay for. Clean up the parts and put the OEM top end on the blue caucus. Run it until it dies again. Tune your carb rich when rebuilt. Saw will 4 stroke when WOT. The bearings in the scrap bottom end locked up because of moisture in the bearings most likely. NBD, tear it down and rebuild it with new bearings seals and new after market top end. You will at short block on the shelf when you’re done. There is lots good info on YT on how to do it. Have fun.

I appreciate the comment I may just do that. from what I can find online this is from the saw getting too hot and running to lean or air leaks. Thankfully pats for these saws are abundant and inexpensive.

Parts are abundant. Buy from reputable after market sources. The cheapest parts are junk ie ebay, amazon from no name suppliers but there is a lot suppliers in the middle of the after market that are good. Get a IPL for the saw so you can find part # numbers. Helps you find the right parts. Group your parts to save on shipping as it really adds up on these projects.

@@FiddleMaker63 ive been watching a lot of @tinmanssaws seems like highway and meteor are decent. I’m think of putting the blue saw back together with the husky top end and perhaps ordering one of the 52mm top ends for the spare. Looks like I will need to buy case splitting tool though. I’m still iffy on the carbs though. May have to do some more learning on those.
