Glad you liked the video. I have to say that it's been about 6 months since we made it, and the wood looks ready to burn....it dried out very nicely!

It takes a lot more time to build but it definitely worth it, I put mine on skids, good job

Wonderful job! I love the drip edge! That’s such a great idea. I use bark for the bottom of mine. I call it my lazy way of not being fancy hahaha I also have mine 10 feet in diameter so I will put two round of straight ones and then all odd shaped ones in the middle like yours.

My wife is half-German and half-Norwegian so I was particularly intrigued by your video when I first watched it, 2 years ago. Since then, I have built 4 of them and am mostly done with a fifth one. One of my Holzhausen’s is made entirely of a large pine that fell down last winter during a storm. We use it for our fire pit. The other piles are 100% hardwood (mostly oak) and will eventually get moved to our woodshed, one stack per year; that way, we’re allowing plenty of time for the wood to season.

I am delighted i stumbled across this wonderful video! I not only am going to make a holz hausen with my last 2 cords and admire your hardwood forest area. Looks wonderful! ps, i live in Maine and New Englanders are known for cool beehive stacks and das holz hausen too. I think i will lay 2 inch thick runners i have lots from my old lobster traps. they are oak and keep the very bottom layer from wicking water upwards. I dunno. The winter we just had made me rethink the amount of wood I'm buying which is more and I'm stacking closer to my house now. God bless and have a wonderful day!

Did you try making one yourself?

I put a layer of brush in the bottom of center instead of gravel and a grid of sticks.

I raked up the debris from the splitter into a circle and then put the saplings on top of that to start.

Save your back...get that splitter off the ground. Just sayin'. the stack looks awesome
