This is one of the best albums ever released. You’d be good to just listen to the whole thing beginning to end.

Bruce could literally sing about tax reform, and it would be badass. He just has one of those voices that is always on point. Grew up with Iron Maiden, and he is iconic. Great song.

I remember hearing this when the album came out and it was just amazing album. You need to hear "Tears Of The Dragon"

Along with its predecessor, this album spawned the return of Bruce and Adrian to Iron Maiden, since they were SO MUCH better than the albums IM released at the same time

Here's a fun fact (or maybe it's apocryphal, but I've heard it so many times, it's probably true, lol)... The backing band for this album were members of "Tribe of Gypsies", a local L.A. Band. Roy Z, from Tribe of gypsies was recording in the same studio, but was not satisfied with the demo they had recorded, and didn't want it to be heard by anyone, telling his sound engineer to bury it until he had a chance to re-record some parts. So Roy walks in later at night to see if he could "fix" it, and there's Bruce at the desk, browsing some of the local talent, listening to their demo, and he thought it was awesome. That chance encounter kicked off a long collaboration, co-writing, co-producing. Tribe opened for Bruce on his Japan tour. Don't get hung up on things being perfect. If it sounds good enough to the right people, success follows from there. Regarding the song and album content. The artwork is a painting by Wiliam Blake, whose poetry is also featured in some of the songs. The "Chemical Wedding" is an alchemical term for the synthesis of the philosopher's stone, which could transmute lesser materials into gold. This material "purification" was also thought to purify people, redeem the damned and make them holy. If alchemists found the formula, they could create Heven on earth, ridding it of evil, disease, death, famine, etc. Now, if you want to go off the deep end with Bruce, I'd recommend "Ballad of Mutt", and "I'm in a Band with an Italian Drummer". Just him fucking around when recording, fun songs, not to be taken seriously.

The album cover is a painting by William Blake. The album is structured around the art and poetry of William Blake. Listen to it as a whole.

I love Iron Maiden, but I never listened to any solo works or side projects from the band. This was different, but awesome. His voice is just something else...

Listening to this song for 22 years, never heard the Phantom of the Opera similarity, now I won’t be able to unhear it. I really enjoy most of Bruce’s solo work. “Tears of the Dragon” is mandatory, but “The Alchemist” is a good follow up to this song.

Great song, the refrain is on another level. It's remarkable how good Dickinson's solo material is compared to Iron Maiden at the respective time, except Brave New Word.
