Promise of the Holy Spirit: Jesus promised the coming of the Holy Spirit to empower and guide believers. This promise was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost.
Acts 1:8: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Indwelling of the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit dwells within believers, serving as a comforter, guide, and the seal of salvation.
John 14:16-17: "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you."
Fruit of the Spirit: The presence of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life is evidenced by the production of spiritual fruit.
Galatians 5:22-23: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
Spiritual Gifts: The Holy Spirit imparts spiritual gifts to believers for the edification of the church and for ministry.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7: "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good."
Transformation and Sanctification: The Holy Spirit works in believers to transform them into the image of Christ and sanctify them.2
Corinthians 3:18: "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."
The presence of the Holy Spirit is fundamental to the Christian faith, providing believers with guidance, empowerment, spiritual gifts, and assurance of salvation. The Holy Spirit is the active presence of God in the lives of believers, enabling them to live out their faith and bear witness to Christ in the world.
