Hologram Electronics Microcosm - Quick Reference Guide

Hello. This is the Hologram Electronics Microcosm. Multiple FX. Looper. Granular sampler. This video is rather long for us. You will hear it in my voice. The wax and wane of the moon and the hours of the night. Forgive me if I repeat myself in sections. You may not notice as you will probably skip around. This video is good for that. Bop around. Come and go. I will lay out some short cuts below. We didn't cover it all, but we covered enough ground to get you somewhere away from here. Maybe we will follow up with a little more. Global settings? Quantize? Play all the FX? Maybe next time if there is a next time. Let us know in the comments if you'd like that?
00:39 - FX Mode (Fender Mustang and Benson Amps Monarch)
04:43 - Looper (Teenage Engineering OP-1)
10:07 - Pre FX (iPhone Xs Max)
15:53 - Shift Functions (Moog Sirin)
24:25 - Burst (8-Bit Power Synth by Michael Rucci)
28:42 - Now A Sketch (Sampling with Elektron Digitakt)
34:19 - Saving Loops and Presets (Elektron Digitakt)
Special shout out and thank you to Darius Christan and Mason Stoops for some musical samplings.

While musically yours is not the mainstreamiest (thats a good thing) and the sounds are not as „beautifulish“ as other reviewers vids, you really managed to bring across the posibilities and depth of this device. And some artsy tones. Wow. Never quite understood how the looper interacted wit the effects side of microcosm. Now i do! Thank you! Looking forward to mine even more now.

I may have missed this, but is it possible to cycle through the layers/tracks of a loop and set different effects for each? It seems like maybe it's not? Maybe adding different effects distinctly to each layer/track is only possible at the time you record each layer/track of the loop?

    I find when running a sequenced synth through the haze modes that it tends to just stop working after a bit. If I turn the volume on the synth down and then back up, it kicks in, but only for like 10 seconds, then it stops again. Am I misunderstanding how this works or is there a problem with my pedal. I only notice it on haze, which is the main effect I wanted the pedal for.

    MrLosercore Did you ever get your haze lockup issue sorted out? I'm about to order a Microcosm for use with my synth/sequencer setup and just want to be aware of any potential bugs before shelling out $450+. Thanks for any additional insights that you can provide.

  • @MrLosercore

    @MrLosercore

    @@alangreen7100 Apparently what I've heard is the pedal is triggered based off transients- so if it doesn't detect a large enough shift in volume it doesn't trigger as easily. I noticed if I put slower arpeggios through it the pedal would work fine, but faster sequences where the volume held more steady wouldn't. As of today, they have released a new firmware which supposedly improves this but I haven't tested it yet.

    I just don't get why the filter is pretty much left at 3/4: I can tell any source sounds muffled while running through the Microcosm and I don't quite get if that's the result of a pretty poor AD conversion in the pedal or a result of the filter itself.

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@vvlvmusic yes, it resolved most the issue. It has no sensitivity or threshold knob, and i was using loud fuzz. But whatever is done is resolved. Its easy to forget its a triggered pedal though as it can seem like a weird delay, but rather is best thought of as a modular synth effect. I CAN still break its trigger with ridiculous reverb drones into it, but not most effects anymore. +It now has double volume (where it was before is now 50% on the knob by default) It can take some learning. E.g. i thought it had a long predelay but forgot it was set in reverse, where youd expect the note to swell in. Or realising to not let chirds ring out too much or it will stick on one chord sometimes. The pedal however can create the ringing needed, so you dont need to sonically its just at first counterintuitive. I havent used any trigger pedal in many years! Not sure abt tempo knob, i can tap to change and sometimes not on that whilst its triggering, and sometimes i t xhanges but light wont. Not too bad.
