Holmes Hobbies TORQUEMASTER MINI - The Best Brushed Motor Upgrade For The TRX4M?! Run & Review!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I install and review the Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster mini 180 66t brushed motor upgrade for the Traxxas TRX4M. The TRX4M Bronco is currently running the Injora 48T brushed motor, so I was able to provide some direct comparisons among these two excellent motors. Watch on to see how they perform!

I have spent the last week watching all of your TRX4M videos before I finally bought my own. I want to thank you for putting together such informative content that really makes sense and helps anyone understand the TRX4M platform. I will defiantly buy this motor when I eventually upgrade from the stock one as soon as I get my TRX4M in. Once again thanks for your amazing work on your channel. I can't wait to see what you do next on the TRX4M platform.

Hey Adam. Thanks for this video. I like to upgrade my motor on my white Bronco, i never knew Holmes Hobbies motor was that good. I seen it on Amazon just glancing at it never checked out until i watched your video. I was goin for the injora 48t pro. But i see why the 66t is a great crawler motor. I appreciate the video i like watching them, thanks 👍🏼

I really like the 87t Holmes motor. However on downhill sections the drag brake the is reduced but that low end throttle response is awesome. I agree $16 for this motor is a great upgrade for the TRX4M

Hey, Adam! Great video as always. I'm having some trouble if you don't mind helping me out. I'm noticing that both of my TRX4ms have an annoying amount of slack/play in the drivetrain. I have the upgraded drive shafts and pinion gears from Traxxas if that makes any difference. If the truck is on flat ground you can role it back and forth almost 1/4" to 1/2" which gets really annoying on obstacles. Any ideas on fixes?

Awesome review! Do you have any idea how the holmes hobbies motor would perform with stock gears? I expect it to be slightly faster (maybe close to what the injora 48T did with crawl gears!).

The higher the turn number, the slower the motor. So, in theory, they also give you a smoother slow crawl. However, nothing will come close to a brushless set up. However, I never see anyone mentioning that adding magnets on the OUTSIDE of the can will also slow it down and boost the torque numbers. Back in the day, when all these custom motor builders didn't exist and we couldn't alter motor timing, we used to add rare earth magnets to the outside of the motor can (the stock magnets will pull them into alignment.) And, like I said, the extra magnets help slow down the motor and boost torque. Effectively just like re-timing today's modern motors that allow timing adjustments. We also used to piggy-back op-amps onto the ones inside the speed controller.. Adding an Op-Amp on top of the stock ones (soldered to the pins on the stock one) provides more Amps to the motor. However it doesn't slow it down...it actually speeds it up AND boosts torque numbers....but, modern esc's don't employ Op-Amps like they did in the past. I'm not talking about the old school mechanical, servo driven esc's. The esc's I'm talking about were the original "solid state" pre-modern esc's we have today....however, I have soldered MOSFET's across the terminals of the motor (where youd usually find a ceramic capacitor) and it significantly boosted power and torque without speeding up the motor... All just ideas that we used to use...if you choose to try any of these, don't quote me on it....use under your own responsibility. If it were me, and I wanted to try any or all of these I'd most likely try them on old pieces that were destined for the trash anyway. Ultimately, stock is boring. Just have fun! And, always always always, make it custom... and share ideas.... -Big Mountain Customs-

Uh, no Adam....the higher the turns, the SLOWER the motor. That's why the basher guys use 12 and 13T motors and the crawler guys us significantly higher turn motors. The higher the turn count the slower the overall speed but also the higher the torque rating.
