ah yes it was VERY VERY common for two men to be soulmates like this in the victorian era in higher society, much less in the working class (as you could imagine) what WAS unusual was the behaviour of the two, since sherlock is such a strange man and watson is a pretty respectable doctor, who stunted his professional work just to run around investigating not only that, but holmes was really the first to be going CSI of any modern sort and THATS why they get weird looks and judgements from other people, and why the modern sherlocks delve more into homosexuality, since capturing this deep connection would translate to the modern ideas of a romantic relationship

Jeremy Brett truly inhabited the character. That's also the impression I got while watching him, he wasn't playing a character, he became the character.
@tgriffin3059
7 ай бұрын
@@TomCruz54321 Absurd. Brett is extraordinarily overrated in this role. In fact, I think a lot of his 'popularity' is because of all this ridiculous gay subtext. Holmes and Watson were Victorian gentlemen. Neither would have had any interest, or tolerance, for homosexuality. The mere HINT would probably summon a prompt pummeling. And Watson was clearly an ardent, if somewhat naive, admirer of the female of the species. Brett was simply not right for the role. He in no way resembled the physical description. And the Holmes of the books was eccentric...but Brett, by way of contrast, is WEIRD. And, frankly, a repellent figure. His odd clammy, unhealthy pallor, his vocal tone, his facial expressions...I've read every Holmes story, multiple times, and this man is simply NOT Holmes...The fact that he is so heavily hailed in the role tells you a lot more about our contemporary mores and fetishism for anything perverse than it does about the character, himself...

Jeremy was .. well alot things happening there, ykwim? bemused spontaneity, surprised, and epiphany! ' thats whats missing!' that impulsive compulsive thing that takes hold, the drive behind addiction.. yeah. sometimes the guy would just start climbin a wall, " Ohhh, check it , yo" and Watson, " I say, Brah! what the devil up with that?" lol ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

ah yes it was VERY VERY common for two men to be soulmates like this in the victorian era in higher society, much less in the working class (as you could imagine) what WAS unusual was the behaviour of the two, since sherlock is such a strange man and watson is a pretty respectable doctor, who stunted his professional work just to run around investigating not only that, but holmes was really the first to be going CSI of any modern sort and THATS why they get weird looks and judgements from other people, and why the modern sherlocks delve more into homosexuality, since capturing this deep connection would translate to the modern ideas of a romantic relationship

@tgriffin3059

His odd clammy, unhealthy pallor, his vocal tone, his facial expressions...I've read every Holmes story, multiple times, and this man is simply NOT Holmes...The fact that he is so heavily hailed in the role tells you a lot more about our contemporary mores and fetishism for anything perverse than it does about the character, himself...

just searched up Jeremy Brett in the middle of watching this. he said that Sherlock's sudden burst of energy then periods of lethargy fascinated him and scared him at the same time. he is playing a character that he founds to he quite similar to him, commenting on how the character is like a "sponge", add to that his own mental and physical health. apparently, in the middle of the series, he has to be perscribed by lithium tablets because of his mental condition. in turn, that took a toll on his physical health, which is evident in his appearance, especially on the latter part of the series. at one point, he even fainted on set. all of which makes Jeremy's performance commendable. quite frankly, he might be my new favorite Holmes. i really need to watch this series now.

Jeremy Brett is the best Sherlock Holmes and you can't change my mind
Sherlock and John’s laugh always makes me a laugh here! It’s addictive and adorable! ❤
I am reading Sherlock Holmes needless to say Holmes and Watson are just chaotic and iconic at the same
I literally laughed my ass off the entire 11 minutes of this video, your editing plus their shenanigans made this video perfect
8:42 That look of Sherlock and Watson combined with the *MATERIAL GALLSSSSS* gets me every damn timmmeeeee xdd How much was 300 back then for them to be so surprised? Well I guess that they usually get paid if Holmes even asks for that but idk what they usually get then.

this is very late, but I believe £300 would be equivalent to about £30,000 today

NICE! I like to think that's what all their random holidays to the coast were bought with

According to a calculator I looked at £46,210.97 in 2024. Jesus! Just imagine in those years!
If anyone love jeremy brett as sherlock holmes, you would like a fanfic of him being the character 😊
