Hollywood Star Takes Key Role in New Nativity Movie: 'A Journey to Bethlehem'
A studio head overseeing a new movie about the nativity believes audiences will truly love the musical iteration of the beloved Gospel story. "It is a full-on narrative, live-action musical with choreography and dance and joy and fun - and a villain in King Herod, played by Antonio Banderas," Rich Peluso, executive vice-president and head of AFFIRM Films, told CBN Digital. "So, they can expect an incredible journey that is harmonious with scripture."
Peluso said Banderas - arguably an interesting casting decision - was "high" on his casting wish list. After he and his team began pursuing the actor, they weren't sure they would land him. So, they went to a theater Banderas owns in Spain, bought tickets to one of his shows, got backstage, and talked to him about the project. And what they said clearly resonated.
"I think Antonio saw the passion of ... the producers and ... realized this music is very special," Peluso said. "And we landed Antonio, and he brought a magic to the character of King Herod." The studio leader said Banderas conveyed "some really nice moments" that helped bring King Herod alive on the big screen, infusing comedic moments into the character's evil nature. "He provides a lot of comedy relief at the same time as being the villain," Peluso said.
As for the general storyline, the AFFIRM leader said it was fun to dive into hypothetical explorations of what people around Mary and Joseph might have been thinking after she became pregnant. "We know Joseph's reaction when he heard about Mary, but what was Joseph's mom's reaction?" Peluso asked. "What was Joseph's dad's reaction? And what could have Mary's parents thought about this?" He said "Journey to Bethlehem" makes the exploration "funny," "heartwarming," and relatable.

...last month...I had seen(re_look) ' the Body' that Bandelas played...about the events in Jerusalem....its still happening now....such a tragedy that...we can't live together...in this world of the same God....
With Sony at the wheel I'm sure there will be plenty of woke progressive politics woben in there some how. As subliminal as it may be, may the lord shine his light upon it.
There's alot more things in this world to do comedy about....americas funny videos...pick one of those...not the most important part of a Christian's life...the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that died for all of us....whipped and bleeding...nailed to a cross for you and me...His birth wasn't comedy it was for everlasting life for us.. Thank You JESUS ❤

I didn’t think about it that way but this director or producer is saying it’s about the birth of Jesus, a joy filled event as opposed to his death. If they’re centering it around the birth that can be happy musical event. I think it could be great.

@@stillcantbesilencedevennow not true, he tells us to rejoice in the lord always so you think he walked around somber and downcast Himself? Of course He was saddened by sinfulness and suffering but I’m sure He was a delight to His parents in childhood and that their family practiced joy. This could be joyful entertainment, why knock good, clean Christ centered entertainment? We need all we can get.

No it is not woke but it is portrayed in a magical manner with dance, songs, humor, scenery, humility and grace !
A garbage movie that mocks God.
This has "grandparent gift" energy. Its gonna suck, and theyre gonna expect us to love it. Blah. "Relatable" concerns me to no end. I love Antonio. But this seems.... Awful.

@@JamesJohnson-lh3vq sigh. It would be nice. I've finally started to get hooks into my son, via some of the more "cool" stories in the bible. I'd love it if they could continue in the vein they have been things like "exodus" and "the flood".
