The LA 80’s strip was a hotspot for metal bands trying to land a record deal… Some found fame while most found tinnitus!
How did you make your band stand out?
From furry sided vinyl to sticking shredded dollar bills into wax, these unique records are all made by one man, David T. Richards.
From a garage located in Hollywood, USA, David explored what a vinyl record could be and gave the young hopeful metal bands a taste of stardom in the process.
During lockdown 2020, these records are a breadcrumb trail for failed journalist,
Scott Willis, to uncover the myths of Hollywood’s weirdest record label, Azra Records.
Hollywood’s Weirdest Record Label is a speed metal patchwork blitz into LA’s 1980’s underground metal scene and a insight into the world of outsider art in vinyl records!
Turn it up to 11!

We needed this documentary! Congratulations to Scott for this excellent work!
That feeling when someone is talking about some pretty obscure 80-s bands, and you know them all!
The terrible ai art took me out so bad
Great video, I really enjoyed it! Well done Scott 😊
This needs to be a full on movie!! Rock on buddy!! 🤟
I went to Dave Richards' house one time, in the early 00s. Everything said here about him and his operation tracks. He was super nice, a little weird, and came off as completely guileless. I really liked him, but wasn't really shocked by some of the shady stories i heard later on.

Of course, you're here. Hahaha.
RIP Matt Vinci. He was such an amazing songwriter and bassist. Liege Lord only put out 3 albums but each one is pure perfection.
WOW!!!! A lot of memories of hanging out at Dave's house eating pizza and watching "Boy and his Dog".
Calling up a big record pressing company and randomly asking to speak with the owner is crazy. It also probably didn’t help that he tells them “I’m Scott from Scotland.”

That was really cool, thanks for posting this! I remember reading about the questionable business practices of Azra Records in an early interview with Overkill in a fanzine way back when, which explained the infamous rhino shoutout. Looking forward to the next part!
Great documentary. I can't wait for part 2 and more. You are doing a great job. I love to hear about 1970s, 80s & 90s rock and metal band from California. I really enjoy your style and voice. I subscribed, and I will be watching for more from this channel. I started interviewing bands in the 1990s (and still do when I can get out to shows) and it is very hard to do all the things that go into setting up interviews and acquiring footage. I just wanted to acknowledge the work you are doing. Please keep it up.
Cool video. Liked the outdoor segments with Ben Franklin.
That was awesome, thank you so much for posting!
Overkill always sounded like Metal Mickey Mouse!!! 🐀.

YES!! Some deadly tunes though.
Killer documentary, good job!
I worked on Overkill's first video back in '85.
Knightmare's Insane After All This Treatment record is cool
Too Cool, thanks for this Video.
Great documentary but the AI was really annoying. Nice to listen to though.

Truly. It doesn't even work thematically. Showing a living room shift and morph implies the passage of time. It looks like time lapse, but that's not what it's meant to represent here? It looks like options passing b, like you're not really sure what you're trying to represent, so you are showing many possibilities, which is not what we want in a non-fiction story. Otherwise the editing and writing/storytelling on this is very engaging and slick. It's such a well done short and the AI stuff detracts so much from it. It also reminds us that you are repurposing real artist's work and not employing a human. How long until teh rest of your team will be replaced? ai writer, v.o.?

RIP Matt Vinci of Liege Lord
There are very basic Azra Records print ads in a few of my old Aardschock America magazines from this era.
Jag Panzer isn't a band nae that you hear every day. I remember seeing them, as a 15 year old kid, opening for Megadeth on the Peace Sells tour at a shitty 18 and over club here in Colorado Springs, Colorado called DJ's.
Leigh Lord!
This cat was an artist and anything he made is collectable.
I loved everything about this except the ai art. Great content as a whole though
i think he still lives in maywood same adress as on all the azra stuff
i got the jag panzer shaped ep " death row " and the wild one , including the worst band's look ever !!!
This is awesome!!! Really unique and style defining use of AI too!
I hate the overtly active hair of AI, but otherwise, solid documentary.

Don't use AI art.
I hate AI
Nah...Cleopatra....
While the doc is cool it's kind of insulting to focus on so many indie artists while using AI.

how? I am a one man band putting this together and wanted to experiment with new software for my own personal creative project.

@@aarolfilms it looks great! I think it really added to the video. Very creative stuff
If you are gonna do this full time you need to focus. I cant understand what the video is about in 10 minutes. I watch casual criminalist. He talks 3 hours about a serial killer. No problem following that.
