What do you think of the role of alcohol in Robert Shaw's portrayal of Quint in "Jaws"? Did this shoot contribute to his sad demise? Let us know!

Maybe, but the more I hear about him the more I dislike him. What a ‘woe is me’ character. If he’d cleaned up his act earlier he might have had a more satisfying career. Not impressed.

He had an incredible career! Stage, film, TV, as a writer/playwright - enough for four people! His early life was traumatic as this video shows - and also shows what a terrible disease Alcoholism is and the strong genetic element involved - it's not just a straightforward question of getting 'cleaned up'

How sad to know that his experiences as a child both traumatized him so much that it was a factor in his early demise, and at the same time, gave him the tools to be such a creative man. RIP.

I saw Jaws in the theater. I remember Mr. Shaw's performance very well. He was a brash, unrefined drunk that made you feel incredibly safe with him at the helm. I was gutted when he slid into the mouth of the shark. I know he shouldn't be remembered most by his performance in Jaws, but it was a stellar performance, maybe because he was in some ways playing himself.

This was my very first movie at a cinema, I was 12 and I was in complete awe!! It was considered a horror movie & being only 12, it scared the crap out of me!!😂When they are searching underwater and that dead guy's ( in the boat underwater ) popped on screen left me speechless. Looking back at the scene currently at age 58, I have to laugh at what a tame scene it actually was, yet it terrified 12 year old me!!😂 It also terrifies me that so many years have seemingly flown by leaving me at almost 60 years old!!!😂 Wow I guess time really does fly whether your having fun or not. Take care...

@nancycurtis488 I wonder if people who leave sarcastic comments in their response to someone else's comment by pointing out petty word usage ever realize all it accomplishes is exposing just how petty they are with their desperate need to put someone else down so they can feel better about themselves. ....????? Apparently, not because you also felt the need to inform another commenter about how redundant their comment is. The only thing here remotely redundant is your negativity.

The studios were generous supplying their top actors and actresses with their vices of choice, often hastening their deaths.

Its a shame how so many great actors, died early from their addictions to either, alcohol or drugs. I cant think of anyone else that would play, "Quint" as good as RS. He was also a villain in the movie. "The Sting" with Redford and Newman. He was an aurhor of novels, also very impressive. RIP Robert Shaw. 🙏🇮🇪☘️

Go on, I will say it, if no one else has. Robert Shaw, the Quintessential British actor. OK, I agree. Not very funny, is it! He shouldn't be remembered just for 'Jaws' but his performance in that film was a knockout! I saw 'Jaws' at a fairly early age and was rivetted by the whole experience and especially Mr Shaw, who was a fearsome presence in his own right, never mind the shark! I distinctly remember being affected and quite upset, when he was taken out in the story, though. I have seen some of his other performances in other films and he always stands out in the frame as a larger than life, charismatic and commanding screen presence, be that as a Bond villain or a weighty King Henry. It is just a shame that he had demons which dogged him throughout his life and he was taken away, when he had so much more to offer the world of acting or writing. I suppose you could say, as somewhat of a consolation to him, he crammed a heck of a lot into the years he was on the Earth, be that good or bad, in his professional and personal life. I don't like to promote the image of the carousing out of control actor, such as Robert Shaw, Oliver Reed or certain other worldwide equivalents, when they can cause so much damage but it is very easy to fall under their attractive, deviant spell. "Farewell and ad..." No! Let's not go there! Thanks for the video upload ✨
