In the this story you mention Howard Chandler Christy. My husband’s grandmother was a beautiful flapper of the 1920s who was the niece of Edouard Lippe who was a composer, musician and actor. He was the vocal coach to Nelson Eddy and was in movie with him 1935 Naughty Marietta. When we settled her estate, we inherited a large Christy painting that appears to be a poster for party called The Circus Ball in 1926. It has the typical Christy girl dressed only in a Tutu like skirt and clown hat. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it hanging in her mid century modern home looking out of place. She said 9n,y that it had sentimental value and we never learned how they acquired it. We have it hanging in our bedroom and I can’t help but wonder who the model was and what the story behind it was. They were avid art collectors but their collections were all mid century modern pieces except the Christy piece. I recently went through a few boxes that ended up with my husbands aunt until her passing this year. Inside I found MGM 9 x12 photographs as of William Powell, Jean Harlow and Nelson Eddy and a travel diary of her 2 week trip to LA as her uncles guest for the movie premiere. They attended parties with Powell, Harlow, Eddy and her Uncle Lippe. In them, she describes in detail the people who attended, the beautiful homes and gorgeous fashion she saw. His grandmother Bobbie lived to be 96 and I had the opportunity to know her but her memory had begun to fail by then. It’s been fascinating to read over her old diaries and look through her mementos from this era. I just wish I had know all this about her then and could have asked her questions. She was just a grandmother to my husband but I’ve learned she was daring, beautiful artistic lady who embraced the lifestyle of the 1920s.

What a fantastic legacy she left to your family. There is so much info about the history of vintage commercial art and silent movies online. Old posters go up for auction all the time. With your supporting documents it may be quite valuable!

I found the narrator’s voice to be so familiar (more so on some of the other videos in this series). I realized the voice sounds like Bebe Neuwirth of Cheers & Frasier fame. Considering her additional fame in musical theater & as a dancer, I don’t think she would mispronounce Ziegfeld. I often wonder if some narrations are AI generated which would allow for the crazy mispronunciations on this video & others. (I know NOTHING about how AI works.😅) Or… this isn’t Bebe at all. Nonetheless, the smooth voice & slight lisp are mesmerizing.

Another well constructed exposé! In another and contemporary life, I can see her fronting a rock or punk or grunge band to great success (and hopefully avoiding the pitfalls of embarrassingly desperate cosmetic surgery like many celebrities as they age). I'm not naming names, but I'm thinking of one in particular who has become a caricature of herself.

Another lovely video - thank you! I still don’t understand the people who can’t appreciate a calm presentation and actually bitch about it. They just need to stay in the drama corners. Ziegfeld wasn’t the only mispronunciation: I’m in my sixties and grew up with these names (even when I was a baby my family was a lot older than I was, so I did grow up with these names). I’d be happy to help with those.
