People get mad at actors or actresses for speaking out 15-20 years after but don’t realize they waited until they had enough power to have their voice heard and have it not ruin their lives. Just cause you have no ability to understand how power dynamics play into the fear and shame around these types of situations doesn’t mean you have to actively try to discredit the experiences of others.

@@PeacefulJoint you literally didn’t even read my comment. You’re literally saying they should ruin their lives in order for the person to be able to continue to assault others. If they come forward as a young actor with no power people like you are going to shame the hell out of them for trying to exploit the poor powerful person. You don’t have any idea how hard it is to admit to situations like this without having a bunch of attention on you much less with thousands of people calling you names and actively seeking to discredit you for daring to try to speak up. On normal cases of SA it can sometimes be years before the victim has mustered the courage to be able to seek justice. What you can do to not be a piece of shit is not make the process harder on them just because you don’t understand it.

He and Kristen Stewart decided to choose to play Indie movies for a while until they make huge comeback in Hollywood with Pattinson becoming new Batman and Stewart played Princess Diana in Spencer and even got nominated as Best Actress at Oscars 2022. Meanwhile, Taylor Lautner made a huge mistake by playing in Box Office movie called Abduction which later bombed and lost his spotlight for years and even appeared in Adam Sandler Movies.

I used to do acting, and as soon as I started reaching the professional level I stopped. The first professional project I was in (a big role with a budget of over a million) the director was touching me and holding on to my arms during rehearsals in the same room as all of the other performers. Did the other actors give a fuck? No, they just want to be successful, because thats what it takes. I still work in the industry, just not as a performer anymore, and as a rule I don't trust anyone until I really know them, I make it clear that nobody fucks with or disrespects me, and remember that narcissist are very real. If you speak out about everything, you will very quickly be ganged up on by NPCs who just want to please people in the industry, so I have to be very careful with the battles I choose. Even then, I've had people say I have a 'superhero complex' or whatever kind of personal attack they can think of because of this (I've learned that personal attacks and rumour spreading are their primary weapon as it requires no evidence and it doesn't even have to be true). Fuck the film and television industry, and yes, it is as bad as you think.

As an aspiring director who is a man, it’s really scary to me that even if I make it into my desired career and am so lucky as to not be preyed upon, I still may be expected to be complicit or silent about such things happening around me or on my sets lest I sacrifice my own career and any chance to make a living with my art. Hopefully a massive reform is coming soon.

  • @calistafalcontail

Dude, I dont care if I sound wacky now, but Hollyweird has a spiritual problem that no reform will fix...this industry is demonic and I mean this literally. I am not saying every single person in it is evil but so many people have talked about it who were in it. Some people have no clue about spirituality, but it all makes sense when you know the laws of energy and what prevents people from saying names (apart from fear). Its not a coincidence, that at the top of so many producing companies, people are perverts and pedos. Creative people dont just happen to turn into weirdos the moment they get rich. Most of them get rich because they made a deal before or because they are born into these sick circles. Selling soul is real and you can get power from it, but you have to give back and feed what you serve...its always the same kind of thing evil feeds of: negative energy, but mostly negative sexual energy and the younger the victim the better. And look at the media...what do we see? The promotion of all things foul and perverted more and more. Everything is meant to be "normalized". Also the topic of sacrifice...in all cultures around the world, human sacrifice was/is a thing. People would have stopped that ish a long time ago, if it wouldnt have any effect cause its a hustle and risky, but we only hear about it from non western cultures still. Its happening here too but on a more "sophisticated" level. Why do people wanna make it in Hollywood? Its not always need for creative expression...its also vanity and greed. The very things our ego wants and who is waiting for our ego to act up the most? Demons. If you make it, then dont fall for it and it wont come at you in an obvious way at first anyway. I heard several smaller actors and comedians, who have very young kids now, say "Before I had my kids, none of these bigger actors/producers ever invited me over, no matter how successful my last set was and how good we got along at a party....but now I was invited several times and they always said: "Make sure to bring the kids" " That is weird to me.

I used to work in the movie industry, started off as a sales agent, went on organizing multinational coproductions. Getting financers on board was one of my tasks. Pretty much at the start of this I had a meeting with an absolutely filthy rich man overseas at his hotel. I was pretty nervous since he's a big fish and I was fairly young and inexperienced for this position though I tried as best as I could not to show it. Had a new suit made, had my pitch and numbers memorized and took a deep breath. When I entered the room of that very luxurious hotel I was more than shocked to see the disgusting mess he had made and didn't bother to clean up before the meeting. He himself was sitting on a sofa wearing only his underwear and a white tanktop that had half of his belly showing and also had food stains on it. I was thinking that he had no need to show his richess because it was clear that this guy was the real deal. I looked past it and went on with the pitch after greeting each other. Shortly after I started he told me that he doesn't care about what I have to say. He wasn't going to invest a penny. At least not for the reasons I tried to present. Instead he leaned in and requested that I sell him as a big producer to the actresses on the set and that he would like to meet them privately. It didn't take much to see where this was going. Needless to say we dropped this one pretty quickly. I talked with other - more experienced - people in the industry field about this. They said that for a lot of these really rich investors money doesn't actually matter that much. I'm not the one who's going to make them rich so I need to offer something that excites them instead. In the case of many investors that happens to be young naive actresses...

The term "Hollywood" encompasses a lot of people with wildly differing opinions--heck, one of their many hypocrisies is feeding the illusion that all our films are made exclusively in an expensive-but-progressive part of Los Angeles, California (or New York City for the free product placement everywhere). They will happily move production to a cheaper state like Texas just to avoid paying the extra cost of living in California that they can easily afford more than most Californians, while still expecting aspiring artists to move to the most expensive cities in the US and Canada, possibly even outside North America, too. Artists right now are fearing that AI will make it harder for them to break into Hollywood than it already is, meanwhile animation and VFX houses have long made getting an entry-level job into Hollywood impossible by choosing to outsource to impoverished countries like Taiwan and North Korea, where people are more willing to work 100+ hour weeks doing in between animations for Western productions all for a slave's wage. We are likely going to get more of these lectures tonight on these Oscars, and don't get me started on their quaint attitudes on animation, foreign film (especially Japanese anime and Korean dramas), comedies, movies not mainstream enough for the Academy, movies TOO mainstream for the academy (e.g. superhero movies), etc etc. The sooner we stop expecting even a small fraction of the "Hollywood" clique to relate to us plebs on any level, and the sooner Hollywood stops thinking making "relatable" social commentary is a good crutch in lieu of entertainment and good storytelling, the better.

And the worst part is that now, all the higher ups have to do is say the right things, act like an ally, and everyone within the industry would defend them with their life, probably not paying attention to how toxic or exploitive they are. This video illustrates one of the reasons PG-13 and R shows with child main characters freak me out. It's bad enough when kids are criticized like they have an adults proficiency in acting, (despite also loving what they do and trying their best), but also, like in these situations, they have to act out someone's sick fantasies on and off set. I know that on stage it's likely all fake, and maybe actors 15-19 have the fortitude to handle adversity, but this can't be good for them.

Honestly I think Ashley's face is prettier in the remake screenshots I've seen, too. Subsurface scattering and higher poly counts does wonders to a woman. If anything, I would be bothered if Ashley sounded less like Sandy Cheeks in the new version. If my mind doesn't conflate "Which one of you's the REAL Dirty Dan?!" with "Hey! If she just calls out a producer or anybody for a verbal exchange, that’s a huge risk, and unless tons of other women come out sharing their experience (with receipts) she’d basically have put herself in a cage with wolves (I.e the man himself, his lawyers, character witnesses, kids calling her a clout chaser or really anyone in Hollywood desperately looking for a job)

Everyone is so used to the digital age where everybody communicates 90% through text and are more than willing to incriminate themselves multiple times with multiple people, but it creates an inflated expectation of proof with every exchange. @@PrimyFritzellz I don't personally believe in these "it's just a distraction" theories about certain events in our culture. However obviously some people do lose their jobs due to fabricated assault and harassment accusations, social media can run with these narratives and just make stuff up out if spite. So it really could be a tool to silence people and discredit people in some rare cases.

100% this. The biggest reason I quit acting and turned to Full-time Work & Twitch Streaming is because during my last few shoes I was touched inappropriately multiple times by my MARRIED director during late stage rehearsals after months of being fine. He would then tell me that if I told anyone he’d cut me from the show, blacklist me on Spotlight and I wouldn’t be paid to perform ever again… There are so many instances like this and it even happens in auditions.

Ive struggled with drug and alcohol addiction over half my life. In the recovery house community, there was a woman who would give special perks to male residents she liked if they fucked her. She would buy them smokes, give them spending money, let them get away with anything...it was gross. There's also a man who runs co-ed houses who would straight up give resident females drugs if they sucked him off. It's so disturbing. There were also houses that would take people's entire welfare cheques, give them a bag of drugs, and barely feed them for the rest of the month. Some houses had everyone including the staff still using, so when you went there wanting to get clean, you wouldn't stand a fucking chance. And it was so easy to become dependent on the houses, in a cycle of trying and failing to get clean long term month after month after month. Cheque day would roll around, half the house would relapse and end up on the street for a few days, only to come back or move to a new house after the binge. Most residents were repeat relapsers, myself included. And getting clean fucking sucks for the first month. Your brain can't reward you for healthy behaviour because it's come to rely on chemicals for reward, so you're miserable half of the time. With meth in particular, it takes up to 2 years before you can be properly diagnosed with a mental illness, because that's how long it takes for your brain to heal. That's not including the deep trauma that comes with the lifestyle. Living on the streets, going to jail, seeing violent crime every day, never being safe, not being able to trust anyone, having psychotic episodes which is basically like being in a horror movie, the list goes on. I went off topic there. But yeah there's similar abuse of power in the recovery house industry aswell.

This video illustrates one of the reasons PG-13 and R shows with child main characters freak me out. It's bad enough when kids are criticized like they have an adults proficiency in acting, (despite also loving what they do and trying their best), but also, like in these situations, they have to act out someone's sick ideas on and off set. I know that on stage it's likely all fake, and maybe actors 15-19 have the fortitude to handle adversity, but this can't be good for them.

@@emilyboekhoff2376 He didn't do anything wrong. It's his chick fans that are jealous of her character Chrissy because she either gets in the way of a ship (steddie Steve/Eddie) or because she takes the role of love interest that they want to self-insert into. There's even articles discussing this because Joseph said what these women were doing is disgusting during a recent con and it was big news in the ST fandom. They despise Grace because of Chrissy and that she's really close with Joseph irl and that infuriates them, even though they've been friends for years. These chicks only learned of Eddie maybe a year ago and it's been hell for Grace since then (Joseph too because they stalked him in multiple countries and watch his every move. He allegedly had to dress up as a waiter to escape them while dining out with his family in Italy on vacation). They even took photos from a Tumblr acc she had as a teen to body shame her and Photoshop the caption to make her seem racist and ableist. One of them had to be banned from a con in Philly for threatening violence against her and her fans. The entire story is legit wild and a perfect example of how unhinged and toxic stan culture can be and how prevalent internalized misogyny is in fandom spaces. They're still harassing her right now. She makes posts about it on Tumblr every so often when it gets too out of control, like asking followers for screenshots of the threats/defamatory posts they make to give her lawyer.
