    I just discovered The Clark Sisters LAST WEEK. Yes, I realize that I'm decades late, and have been told by folks that I must've been living under a massive rock to let this legendary group pass me by, but I have finally found them and I'm seriously making up for lost time. Their high-spirited music has had me blissed out, nonstop, since the discovery....jamming at the gym, in the park, in my car, in my kitchen, in the shower...round the clock. I'm loving their messages of faith, their melodies, their passion, their buttery voices. And as a bonus for me, I love that Dorinda looks exactly like one of my aunts, the nice aunt! 😆🤩😍

    Nah, that's dope. I'm excited for you. I had heard their music before, but it was not until their movie in 2020 that I really started to dive into their catalog and learn their history and who they are as sisters, daughters, mothers and wives. It's been a beautiful journey and I wish you the same.

    Girl me too. I am 42. Growing up in the 90's I would hear bits and pieces of the Clark sisters name but I didn't pay much attention cause all we heard was Kirk Franklin, the Winans, Yolanda Adams, Hawkins, back then. I've heard remakes of their song Living in Vain from R&B artists, I heard swv, and faith do their song Endow me. But I never knew it was originally them. Their songs are better that R&B and I never been much of a gospel fan. After this movie, I have been blasting their music. Twinkie's producing and writing skills is so crazy, it's ridiculous to have so much talent .

    Wow, these women not only sing, but each and every one of them know how to preach, minister and testify too. I believe Twinkie has the gift of healing. They learned well from their mother. I admire the fact that their mother told them if their going to sing for Jesus they are going to have to live that sanctified life too.Dr. Mattie Moss knew the consequences of being lukewarm, having one foot out the door and in the other and backsliding aquires seven more spirits which is why she told daughter Denise she couldn't let her do that to herself. They were between a rock and a hard place, especially Denise and Twinkie because we want to have fun and do what the outside world wants to do, its a closed strict lifestyle not everyone can lead. Faith Evans took her whole singing style and demeanor from Karen Clark from the way she sings, her mouth and the way she belt out her notes all the way down to their lazy tongue. She even did their song Endow me.

    The Clarks are just a big ol' buffet of musicianship....and it starts with the songwriting and production chops of one, Twinkie Clark, who right under her Mom's nose...and behind her back, was experimenting with other styles of music, from day 1. And Mattie Moss Clark was the furthest thing from a dumb woman. She may not have liked HOW Twinkie was coming up with all the various styles that she put in their music, but when she saw and heard the results, like any parent should, she supported it as long as they knew what the foundation of their music was from. And that would be old fashioned traditional gospel...which you always hear in their music, anyway. but at the end of the day, this is a group that was really its own entity...they didnt need to go outside the group for anything, except a session engineer to help them record. All of them are basically LEAD SINGERS...and I think MOST of them play instruments of some sort. You have the 'LeBron James of the group" in Karen...you have 'Scottie Pippen of the group" in Dorinda...you have the glue of the group, in Jackie...and you have the genius of the group, in Twinkie. So, in my opinion, they dont just belong in the Gospel Hall of Fame..they also deserve Kennedy Center Honors, for being among the very best musical icons in the performing arts community, in this country. They're legends...just as relevant as the Caravans or Aretha or Mahalia Jackson..or any of the other gospel giants that came before them.

  • @bravebird1578
    @bravebird1578 Жыл бұрын

    Twinkie is tired and they are parasitic and it goes back years. She deserved a life and love all her own. People need to use their eyes to truly see. She has tried to leave and no one seems to think she wanted to do anything but make music. Here fingers have played a very long time...was she not supposed to be married and in love and carve a path of her own? Could the others not see their abilities without her? Granted together they are magical...she states she looks older and that says alot about the burden she carries and her loyalty despite the health challenges she has. Disfunction is everywhere and the people of the church are not exempt. Even on the cooking show it is impressed upon her that her fingers are of value. She is much more than a pianist. I pray she knows true peace and joy before she ascends. 1 Peter 5:1 & 5:5

    I couldn’t agree more. I just rewatched the movie a few nights ago and was like wow. Her mother pulled her away from being a child and growing up so much so that she couldn’t cook or clean and then her sisters did the same even with her health challenges. Jacky seems to be so mean to her. You can tell she’s worn out. They all seem very selfish when it comes to her. It seems like they just see her as a gift and nothing more. Whenever they give her birthday wishes or pay her compliments it’s never to her personality or who she is as a person or a sister but it’s always to the gift. It’s unfortunate.

    Sadly Denise chose her own direction and truth be told her path ended with them because she chose to leave. Her anger still exists only because she’s allowed herself to let bitterness overtake her life while the sisters chose to move on and become more famous spreading the word through music. I have the same issue with one of my sisters who decided to keep away from family but my mom and I still keep in contact by letters and we still love her regardless. We have to let a person live the way they choose to.
