Starting at 9:12, when the Crawford brothers are introduced and interviewed, take special notice at how both of these young men are so well-mannered and polite to the interviewer. You can tell in a second they were brought up right; to be polite, kind and generous. Folks, this is what American youth USED to be like, back in the day.. what a shame we've fallen so far down, away from that great way of life. Anyways, Johnny and Bob, you did great and I hope, if you both have kids, that you raised them to be just like yourselves!

I'm in total agreement with you kerryincolumbus!! what kind of shithole have we, as Americans, slid in to?? This is such a treat to see how great America was back then!!
I was at this parade, I was 7. When it was over my brother and I where cutting through a parking lot and there was the Three Stooges. We got to walk right up to them!!

Was it odd as a 7 year old to see them as regular guys?
when moviestars were true moviestars!!! gimme the good ol days!!
Parades in the old days seemed so much more as a peoples parade. No commercialism, just good people being entertained. I miss the local community parades back in the 50's, like the Hesperia Parades.
My dad took us twice back in the 60's. It was wonderful.
This was The Santa Clause Lane Parade, and would've been broadcast on KTTV, narrated by Bill Welsh, who also narrated The Rose Parade. Sure brings back memories of a better time.
The Santa Claus Lane Parade! It looked like a lot of fun, & though I wasn't born yet, it seemed to me like a simpler, happier time here in L.A. Was great to see L.A. tv legends like Bill Welsh, Sheriff John, Bozo, Johnny Grant, George Putnam. Also enjoyed seeing Anne Francis & Clint Eastwood! Great video:)
My mother graduated from Hollywood High in 1948. Her father was a barber with his shop on Hollywood and Vine, Joe's Barber Shop!
Back then, the parade took place the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. I attended Hollywood High School from 1967 - 70 and helped park cars on the football field for parade participants, and before then watched the parade with my family. My wife told me she also watched it when she was in jr. high and high school with her family. Each night after the parade, Santa Claus would cruise down Hollywood Blvd. on a float. We could hear the nightly procession from our house on Orange Drive.
I went once to the parade, and now I wish the world had stood still! It was great back then, great actors and good people. What the Hell happened?

It wasn't the Hollywood Santa Parade; it was the Santa Claus Lane Parade, the one Gene Autry wrote about in his song, "Here Comes Santa Claus."

Thanks for posting this Back when America was America! :) Happy holidays to everyone. I loved this.
This was when America was America and California was California, when you could go to something like this and not worry about hearing rap music or getting shot by some gang---geez what has happened to this country. (moved out of California in 1972)

This is truly an enjoyment all the stars I enjoyed at 11 years old at the time, with so many stars like, both Robert and Johnny Crawford, leave it to beaver, rawhide with both Eric Fleming and Clint Eastwood,so many famous people of the era just to go down memory lane. Thank You
Hollywood Actors even said "Merry Christmas" back then ..
Date of this parade was Wednesday, Novenber 22, 1961.
Decent stars & awesome cars!!
This film/video clipping had to have been done around 1962, I recognize a couple of 1962 year make model vehicles out there on the boulevard. Thanks for sharing!

Thanksgiving 1961. The '62 model cars were out. There was a song that talked about driving "next year's Cadillac," which back then REALLY meant something!
This was the 30th Annual "Santa Claus Lane Parade". Gene Autry, the Grand Marshal for this parade, wrote, 'Here Comes Santa Claus'. Which is about this parade. My brother has been the Santa for the parade for the past six years.
Born and raised in Holywood, went to Hollywood High, along with Carole Burnett and Richard.Long Loved the parade always attended!
2 1962 Dodges here so I think it's 1961. The Santa Claus Lane Parade. My first year there was 1948. Nothing like today...it was great!
Takes me home....thank you!
WOW, when the Hollywood "Santa Claus Lane" Parade actually meant something, and was worth going to! The Frolic Room, Musso Frank and The Pantages, (which was a movie theater, then, showing "Spartacus,") are still there!

This is too cool. I wish I was born in that era. Such a happy and festive time they had. The footage was shot from where the W Hotel now stands and the crowd is across the street at the Pantages between Argyle and Vine on Hollywood Blvd. (e-36) & (e-35) on The Zale Map. Thanks for posting this awesome footage and Happy Holidays to you and yours. Danny Zale
I watched this whole clip--and, boy, did it bring back memories! One of those memories was that I actually had seen it the parade when it aired live. I remembered the antics by the Untouchables cast, which was pretty corny, but then I found them so cool! I always liked this event, because it came the night before we got four days off from school for Thanksgiving.
I was 10 years old - HOLLYWOOD in it's HAYDAY. I remember most of these people.

When the Hollywood parade was really wonderful. Then my favorite Crash Corgan is in the parade on the horse I rode with him at Corganville. Also the Beaver.
Fantastic video. So lovely to see Eric Fleming and the Rawhide gang.
This rare B&W TV kinnie film footage also features an appearance by one of my favorite funnymen and a dear friend..Soupy Sales.
Merry Christmas early everyone and remember the reason for the season is the birth of our Lord and Savior.
hey I just found this and it's great I could watch all day thanks for posting.
In the mid 60's it was easy to get press passes for this. While I was in H.S. we used to go down there and have our passes. Life was much simpler back then.
they were the movie stars people love to see. today is just actors totally different
I miss😥those days...Good old days.
I rode behind Crash Corgan on his horse as we raced down the street of Corganville.
The mob fight..so good.. And the guy just skips merrily to the other side of the car, and hops on the outside,,..so 1920s ..so good The clothing, so epic. The cars, man..classic. So good
cool footage thanks for posting!!!

While the movie marquee says "Spartacus" which was released in 1960, this parade has to be at least 1962. I spotted two 1962 Chevy Impala convertibles as well as at least one 1962 Ford Fairlane 500.
Love teh Spartacus theater ad in the background!
Hollywood's Xmas was great back then. Hollywood's Xmas now is different. 😏😎
Would like to see an extended clip with the rawhide crew, Eric Fleming n Clint Eastwood. I wonder why their big group didn't get a few more seconds and everyone else did?
KTTV coverage. Fond memories. 'All the way from Long Beach' Spartacus in it's second big year at the Pantages! Bill's so busy running his gig that he doesn't need a coat, but you usually did.
What a blast from the past when times were normal, children were respectful and mannered. holidays were cherished and stars were stars and not political hacks.
Thanx CapnHawk:)
With Bill Welch providing the on-air commentary !!!
That's right, wasn't 1960. At the start of the video there's a reference to Joe E. Brown losing his home in a fire, and that would have been the 1961 Bel-Air fire which had barely occurred a couple of weeks before.

Yeah, I just noticed that Ty Hardin was riding in a 1962 Thunderbird. Must be '61.
At 18:48, looks like Clint Eastwood.
Cool footage. However, this must be from 1961 (new car season started back then in September)... Jack Bailey, for instance, is in a 62 Studebaker, Lawrence Welk is in a 62 Chevy.
I was 3 yrs old at this time, But look how happy the people are, Looking around me at this time, 2021 during this global pandemic, Terrorism seems to be spreading , poverty is still rife, wars are plenty. Christ were did it all go wrong ?
Jack Bailey host of Queen For A Day! And a very old Francis X. Bushman.
Shirley was friend , Steve Allen, Lo Hondro, etc
There's a 1962 Pontiac at the beginning of the parade.
@4thekidsTV - Indeed it is.
Do you know when the parade started to occur on the Sunday after Thanksgiving? That's when I remember it from, from the '70's on.
10:51-Or as some used to call him, Ty _Hard_-On.
All these millions of people who say "I've always hated clowns!" - well, people who were born after Stephen King's IT I can understand but until the 1970s or 80s kids ADORED clowns! And this is the proof - if clowns were so upsetting to children they wouldn't have been everywhere. Not seeing trauma here.
Hey,isn't Johnny Grant wearing that same Eskimo sweater Beaver and Judy Hensler had? :)
Please tell me how you obtained this! If the parades are archived, I would love to obtain a copy from the '70s.
My mother had my twin brothers the next night

But, still my home town celebrating Christmas with my very first Christmas ever especially, when it was only four days alway. I still remember the holiday seasons in Hollywood back in the day during the 1960's though, and all the beautiful city decorations that wrapped street lamps and decorations which would be across both sides of the street! All the beautiful metallic colors of silver and gold, red, and green!! It truly was...... magical!!!

Mostly lesser to unknown stars to the non-Hollywood population, with a few exceptions. Would be criticized today for its unacceptable lack of ethnic diversity, showing how times've changed.
Jack Bailey of Queen for a day never had any minorities in his program. I'm sure there were many minorities who needed to be in that show. That's racism for you.
