    Jim Parsons had and still has me SHOOK. He's all smiley and warm up there in his chat window. But wow...with a different hairstyle and eye color...he was something else on the show. Transformed.

    This was a fantastic show! I was so sad to see that the critics weren't excited about it. It's a great story, the actors are all amazing, and making it a limited series was the perfect choice. Easy to binge and tells a full story with no expectations for more seasons. I recommend everyone watch it. As long as you aren't uncomfortable with some of the more mature themes I think it's something everyone needs to watch... Ryan Murphy has some wonderful ideas and this is no exception...tackles serious issues in a funny and moving way.

    @@nrahman3439 I think people just didn't "get" it... Which is a shame. I also think that everything Ryan Murphy puts out will be compared with Versace. I think that's the killer in the end. That anything Ryan Murphy puts out especially if Darren Criss is in it is going to be expected to be at the level of intensity that versace was. And honestly, thst was one of those one off series that just worked. The cinematography, the intensity of the actors, the way everyone worked rogether, the way Darren embodied his character... That series was impeccable and really the perfect storm. Hollywood wasn't ever going to be on that level. That's why i try to go into each RM production with a clean slate. Hollywood was fantastic but with moat critics comparing it side by side to Versace I could see how they felt it fell flat... I just feel like it wasnt fairly reviewed.

    Fortunately in our household we're not tuned in to "reviews" and we watched this because it looked interesting, we both love period pieces to start with. We loved this show and I'm really glad we watched it naively-- we hadn't heard a word about it so it all unfolded for us without any preconceptions. It worked beautifully for us. People saying it "wasn't true to history" or "didn't have a vision" are being silly. The whole show was the vision, and yeah, art can reexamine history-- it's not "rewriting" and expecting anyone to believe that's what actually happened. I tend to think that people who are upset with the show are the types who are upset with the idea of actual change, actual power being distributed differently-- perhaps they are the type of people who would have shoved the Peg reels into the fire. The set design and decoration was fantastic. Every single frame was a delight.

    I think it's more that many ppl feel Ryan Murphy often tries to cover so many political topics in not necessarily the most thought out way? Glee's later seasons (where the political messages took precedent over the satire) are a good example of this. Hollywood was only 7 episodes and they covered so damn much from inter-racial relationships to feminism, to black civil rights, to Asian American civil rights, to homosexuality, to sexual abuse in the industry, etc...so everything felt kind of rushed and they really couldn't portray the topics with much depth-since he tried to cover so many. And, as a nbpoc, the whole "alt-universe where racism was fixed by white ppl in Hollywood" thing did kind of rub me the wrong way. Don't get me wrong. I really really enjoyed Hollywood. It was fun. the costuming and sets were AMAZING and Patti Lupone stole every scene she was in. But, it very much felt like Ryan was white gay male-splaining racism. I enjoy Hollywood for its unapologetic Hollywood feels. But, I enjoy it for the spectle- not for the political message-and for a show that's supposed to be about the political message, that's not exactly a good thing.

  • @victoriabaker4400

    @victoriabaker4400

    @@maura0026 I don't agree with this analysis. I didn't watch Glee and had no prior knowledge of Ryan's work. I LOVED the way it was structured and unlike many I didn't watch ANY trailers or spoilers so I watched it from a completely naive point of view. The structure was intersectional-- showing the ways that race, sex, and class interact as oppressive systemic structures. The fact is, when white people have all the power, it's going to take white people to change the system. And it wasn't only about "white people changing racism"-- there were Black (and Asian) people pressing the issue, otherwise what impetus for change would there have been? This show is speculative fiction-- what might have been, if only the racist lawyers (as portrayed which was quite realistic) hadn't actually gotten their way. And it's a good reflection of today-- racism isn't going to change until white people confront the racism of white people. It's UP TO WHITE PEOPLE to change it. Just as, sexism isn't going to change until MEN stand up to other MEN and demand change. So attacking a piece of speculative fiction that shows how that might work is counterproductive at best.

    The cast is outstanding, a brilliant mix of newcomers, veterans and absolute veteran legends. Patti LuPone absolutely kills it - she steals the whole show with every scene she has and you will just crave for the next bit she'll appear. Holland Taylor was absolutely divide too. The show is beautiful, the costumes department, hair and makeup, just outstanding. The script could be better and depending on what you expected and wished for, the show will either surprise you or slightly disappoint you. But, I mean, this great cast and Ryan's whole team can never do wrong. I truly enjoyed watching this show.

    I think one thing that I wish the advertisements really exemplified was the fact that it's NOT a history piece, that Hollywood is a vision of today's social justice in yesterday's movies. I didn't know that or hear that going in, and I think that causes a lot of audience members to not "get it." Even the Netflix description didn't explain that, and that does such a disservice to the show because people are confused when it doesn't match with their expectations, even if it is still brilliant!

The entire cast was brilliant; they had me clued to the TV until 6 AM. David Corenswet , Jim Parsons, Jake Picking and Holland Taylor were truly convincing. Laura Harrier and Darren Criss took on their roles with ease, the chemistry was great. Last but not the least, Samara Weaving shone brightly even tho her part was small. I had watched because of Darren Criss however, was so happy to see Dylan McDermett as a wonderful surprise in, "HOLLYWOOD". Didn't know he was in this. I've grown to appreciate ALL the cast in this and can't wait for season 3. BTW, when does it come out?

    I never heard of her of seen her before, but she really impressed me. I thought in that scene where she does a screentest and midway through decides to throw it so the other girl can get the part, she was fenomenal. I suddenly thought wait who'se she? If I see she is in something, I'm definitely checking it out.
