Melissa Turner I`m not sure Mac is a psychopath? He has got anger management issues and his jealousy and suspicion towards other people borders paranoia. But since all his negative behavior and mindset have revealed themselves long after he first arrived, I think they are more a product of what he has experienced since he returned to Hollyoaks, than something which always has been a part of who he is. His lying restrict itself to covering up his actions - psychopaths tends to be pathological liars, and lie even if there isn`t a particular reason for them to do so. Not that all psychopaths are pathological liars, but it is quite common among them. Mac`s reactionary pattern - how he responds to what he perceives as either threats or challenges - also seem to suggest him to be more impulsive, than calculated. Suggesting him to be a disorganized psychopath - should he qualify for the term psychopath at all. But his day to day persona seems highly organized and structured - suggesting he should have been an organized psychopath. So I am leaning more to the thought he isn`t a psychopath at all, but the changes in his personality is linked more to what he has experienced over the last years and months, than to who he is as a person. When life ran without problems, Mac was a caring father and supportive fiance to Neeta. It was only after Marnie and Ellie concocted aginst him to break up him and Neeta, his life and image of how it was was so severely rattled he wasn`t able to control his anger. Had Marnie and Ellie not plotted against him to make him believe Neeta was unfaithful, he would never have responded violent towards Jesse, Neeta wouldn`t have become so scared she eventually left him, resulting in Mac getting back with Marnie. But because Neeta leaving him had hurt his male pride, he needed to prove himself he wasn`t totally past it, and started an affair with the girlfriend of his own son. An affair he feared could cost him his children, should it be known - and therefore found himself in a situation where he left Cameron for dead after Lisa had run him over, couldn`t say what happened after his son fell out of a window which hadn`t been properly secured when Mac and Nathan argued after Nathan had caught Lisa and Mac in flagranti. After that his affair with Lisa is over, eventually also his relationship with Marnie and his kids. But Luckily for him Neeta comes back into his life. But now she is all that he feels he has. Add to that his suspicion and jealousy borders paranoia as a consequence of what he has experienced - Marnie and Ellie`s sabotage, being bullied by Jesse over his age, Neeta leaving him, Nathan dying, Lisa despising him, Marnie and James poisoning him to make him believe he has got Alzheimer - and is so bad Neeta doesn`t recognize the Mac she first met and fell in love with anymore. So she starts to look for something more in her life, and starts working as a teacher`s assistant. Mac is not supportive, cause in his paranoid mind she is trying to distance herself from him. He, feeling he is in danger of loosing her, becomes even more controlling - which again makes Neeta feel even more trapped and unhappy, not remotely recognizing the man she once fell in love with. She starts an affair with Hunter - mostly because he is everything Mac used to be, but which Mac is no longer. Mac discovers the affair, and learning he has been replaced with a boy is a massive blow to his ego. He becomes yet more controlling of Neeta - pushing her further away. But not realizing as much because he feels so betrayed and humiliated. No, I am sorry. But I don`t think Mac is a psychopath. I think he is a man who feels emasculated, and to feel like a man again therefore compensates that by behaving controlling, hostile towards his perceived enemies and even violent. Everything from how he had no hesitation taking Tony`s money playing poker, to his threats and beatings of both Hunter and Jack, points in that direction. And because he has problems restraining his rage and anger, he looses control when becoming angry. Trapped between the fear of being exposed and the need to prove himself a man, he beats up both Hunter and Jack. Mac being a psychopath or a monster is not the intention behind this story line. If it was, why make this little summery of his entire time in Hollyoaks? I think the wisdom we are supposed to learn from this story line, is not that some people are monsters or psychopaths. But that we ourselves could, without intention, turn them into such, if we did something to them which caused them such a trauma their personality changed. Mac might have been the person who actually caused the school to explode. But if it hadn`t been for what Marnie and Ellie, Jesse, Neeta, Lisa, Marnie and James had said and done to Mac the months and years before, Mac would never have been in a state of mind where he felt so angry and frustrated he would have acted as he did. Does that mean any of the above are responsible for the explosion? Off course not. But it does mean the explosion is unlikely to have happened, had it not been for what they did. All actions words and gestures have consequences. Sometimes well beyond what we are able to realize when we decide to do whatever it is we decide to do.

TVjunkiewhatever it's NOT okay for you too cheat and to abuse your own son because he gay or sleep with your kids partners and yes Neeta should of never cheated on her boyfriend or sleep with one of her students since it's illegal for a teacher to sleep with a student but that doesn't give Mac the right to kill her. I think the reason why Neeta cheated on Mac is because Neeta wasn't happy with him and doesn't even want to be with him. but I think Mac deserved it for abusing his eldest son (James) and for sleeping with his second son's girlfriend/Fiancée. and It could also be possible that Mac could also be homophobic since he once said that he wishes James was never born. not to mention that Alfie was conceived when Mac cheated on Marnie with Cindy like 16 years ago. and then Cindy had put Alfie up for adoption and could have Marnie to adopt Alfie together. he even caused his son's (Nathan's) own dead by sleeping with his girlfriend/Fiancée.you always wants to defend the Villains don't you? I think you seem to forget that this is a daily DRAMA series.

Heinrich Karg You are wrong in so many ways, but mostly in your claim I always defend the bad guys. I don`t. It is just that I don`t classify people as either good or bad, I try to look at the fuller picture. I am more interested in why people are monsters, than that they are. In my - and the law`s opinion - the cold blooded execution of Eva Falco on a train - killing not only her, but her unborn child, is a worse murder than Mac killing Neeta, caused it was done with intent and deliberation, recklessly without any concern for innocent people otherwise present on the train, or at the station. Hollyoaks depiction of that murder was a fairy tale version of what an actual close range shot to the brain would have been like. In real life Liam couldn`t have mistaken Eva for being asleep unless he was both blind and without of the sense of smell. The skull having an exit wound which would have "decorated" both the train window and the walls with blood and brain, and the whole carriage smelling of gunpowder and blood. And that is if Eva sat quietly down allowing Grace to shoot her. Had she tried to flee, and Grace had to run after her and fire - anyone in that station or train could have been killed. Had Eva discovered her before the other way around, jumped her and there was a wrestle for the gun, again anyone around them could accidentally be killed or hurt. To plan and execute something like that takes a callousness and cynicism most of us luckily are not even capable of grasping. But the people who do posses those "qualities" are dangerous, and someone society needs to be protected against. Therefore it horrifies me Hollyoaks and other soaps gives credibility and status to the types of characters displaying this type of behavioral pattern. Grace. Warren, Trevor are among the Hollyoaks ones, Phil Mitchell and Cain Dingle there respective counterparts - or inspiration - from Eastenders and Emmerdale respectively. I am not concerned about the story lines or the characters - but extremely concerned about how they impact the viewers watching them, and who cheer for the various characters. It amazes me that the group self-harming story line created so much concern, when all it did was make parents aware of what potentially could be a problem they could be faced with one day. But all the glorification of violence, and idolization of gangsters and psychopaths doesn`t even raise an eyebrow. We know a lot about how children growing up in violent environments or families can develop in that direction themselves. Both the strict codes of conduct (don`t grass and more), the education of watching other people perform and get away with horrible violent acts, plus the feeling of superiority and power being the executor of such acts can experience, is a cocktail responsible for most of the crime and violence, all over the world. In second place you`ll violence instituted and executed by government and authorities through either the military, the police or other government organisations or institutions. In many ways we have created a world where power, and executing it through force or violence, has become the norm. The results are disturbing. In the US people care more for their guns than their children, and as a result more people are killed by guns, than from cancer every year. Sexual harassment is and has been at least for the last 3 decades a huge problem. Organized crime is on the rise world wide, in some cases even believed to be either sanctioned or conducted by official governments of certain countries. There has been an increase in both the use and spread of torture, not only by rogue regimes, but even democratic countries and all the way down to street level in criminal gangs, on the porn/prostitution scene and among kids. What motivates and move us as human beings are feelings. Therefore the rise in all the above likely can be explained with fact the feeling of power gradually has replaced the feeling of being loved, and feeling of belonging (friendship/family) as the main motivator for human behavior and ideals. When power is the goal - love becomes the victim. They are like oil and water. You cant mix them. But you can, if the oil catch fire, cool it down with the water. Same way love can cool down violence and aggression. Two great examples are the reconciliation trials in South Africa after the fall of the Apartheid regime, and how the citizens of Norway in 2011 unified after the terrorist attack conducted by a man suffering from inferior complexes, but who also was a narcissist with sociopathic tendencies and illusions of grandeur. Since we have seen the same many places suffering terrorist attacks, Paris, London Stockholm and more. Instead of getting enraged and revengeful, only focusing negative energy on what should happen to the guilty, they embraced other - and more productive - feelings, helping them to calm down and look forward, but which also regained them each other`s faith in humanity. The Norwegian people wasn`t violent lunatics - only this particular individual. Had they gone the other way, and the public debate had been turned into a competition about who could suggest the most cruel or horrific punishment, the entire country likely would have become more cold and power focused, as a result. What has this got to do with Hollyoaks? Feelings! More precisely negative feelings being evoked in the viewer as a result of how what they see on screen impact their feelings and emotions. If you feel angry or frustrated because your father is an alcoholic who regularly beats you, you live in a street where you risk being attacked going to school, to the shops or just visit a mate on the next block - or if you feel that way cause you have just watched your favorite Hollyoaks character suffer unjustly in an episode on tv - the feelings are the same. Your brain might be able to - if you think about it - separate between feelings brought on by drama, or feelings brought on by events in the real world, but most likely not, cause when you are hurt, frustrated, sad and more, you have a hard time thinking about anything other than the thing that made you feel that way. Looking at many of the comments here, they more or less proves it. Just have a count of how many times the word hate, or suggestions Mac should be killed - preferably in a horrific way - are expressed in the comments on this page. People watching are so emotionally enraged by the story line they are unable to dissect it intellectually. All their focus are on their emotions - not a single thought on the facts behind the development of the story line. Firstly, it is just a story line - you are absolutely right there. But as long as story lines keep getting people so emotionally aggravated or frustrated they are unable to think what is behind the story lines, and those viewers are only capable of focusing on how they feel, those story lines function as a very effective brain wash. Whether intentional or by accident, Hollyoaks is able to, by just having certain characters behave in a certain way, make a huge mass of their audience respond in unison. Take our Icelandic commentator whose first name is Charlie, and his statement: "I hate him, he killed Neeta! (I added a comma and !) His fondness for the character Neeta has made him hate the character Mac. Despite both Neeta and Mac only being words on a computer screen performed by actors, he feels that way. Intellectually he knows the show isn`t real. But his emotions doesn`t, so he hates Mac. Cause that is how he genuinely felt when he wrote that comment. What we know to be the reality, and how we feel about a situation we experience or watch and which bring out emotions in us, is not the same thing. The messages of anger, sadness, feeling offended, excited and more are leaving the brain in high performance cars, while rationality is on the platform of the train station, wondering which will be faster - waiting for the express or jump on the ordinary commuter train. And while rationality is still waiting for the express train, or walking on board the commuter train. The high speed performance cars are returning with messages of impressions, recollections and yet more emotions brought on by the first emotions, and processing those will take up all the available lab capacity for a while. So when rationality returns with it`s memories, impressions, associations, recollections and more - the lab capacity is fully taken, and rationality just have to wait until all the emotions has been processed. That is how brain washing works. But it is also why people with uncontrollable rage issues are not able to control their rage. And why little metodes like a snap with a rubber band, or counting help them regain their calm. Cause if they intellectually know they are counting or snapping themselves with the rubber band because they need to gain control of themselves again. Rationality is no longer on a train, or waiting for one, it is in a formula 1 car with flashing blue lights and full police force to stop traffic so it has a clear route ahead. That is the difference between someone who has undergone anger management treatment, to someone who has not. The former, from the repetition during therapy, has thought his/her brain why it is counting, or snapping it`s arm with a rubber band. So if the person identified the signs he/she was about to loose control in time, those metodes could prevent a violent outburst. There are also other techniques, like blocking out what the provoker is saying by imagining waves on a beautiful beach, and only listen to waves, seagulls, dolphins and more - or imagining being massaged. TO BE CONTINUED IN THE NEXT COMMENT

My God! This Actor who plays Mac is brilliant. He and Archie Mitchell (EastEnders) are so vile and frightening. Those two and the Late Soap Actor Michael Zaslow (Roger Thorpe) Guiding Light were brilliant at being bad. Is there a reason why Mac was so bad. Was he too abused as well. I live in Canada so I don't get Hollyoaks. I get Coronation Street and EastEnders but we are Two Weeks behind and Five Months behind respectively.

I`ve watched this clip for a second time now, and realized it focuses too much on Mac - his behavior and what he has done - to accurately represent the tittle The Making of Monster. As this clip has been put together it is more the "highlights" in a monster`s last two years. Where are the scenes where we see his own daughter, Ellie, and ex wife, Marnie, plot together to ruin his and Neeta`s relationship - which among other things lead to the making of the photo of Neeta and Jesse which Mac was sent? Where are the scene where, when Mac and Neeta returned so Mac could apologize for having lashed out on Jesse, and offered to help getting the salon in order, Jesse took the opportunity (feeling brave with his two brothers by his side) bullied Mac about his age, suggested he was past it etc? A trauma for Mac, which together with the photo of Neeta and Jesse Ellie and Marnie organized for him to have, rocked his safe little world, made him feel vulnerable and emasculated, questioning whether he could realistically have the future with the young Neeta he had felt so certain about before that. As a consequence of this feeling of having been emasculated, he compensated for that by becoming aggressive and controlling - not at all the man Neeta first had met and fallen in love with. So she left him, and soon after Marnie came back into his life. But the impact of her and Ellie`s conspiracies and Jesse`s bullying was that Mac still felt emasculated. So to compensate, and prove he still had what it took, he engaged in a relationship with a younger woman who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time - which unfortunately was his own son`s girlfriend. Well, sort off. Since he was more focused on Cleo than on Lisa, and also so different in personality Lisa was actively looking for a fun and exciting distraction for Nathan at the time - and just happened to find her boyfriend`s father the first taker. And so it went on. One bad choice lead to another, until finally he accidentally caused the explosion at the school. But it is reasonable to assume - since Mac was a completely different person when he first arrive - he started to develop into a "monster" after he arrived. It is also logical t assume having the foundation of his relationship rocked, and his masculinity questioned was the traumatic events which triggered his change in personality, which again lead him into that downwards spiral of becoming less likable, more controlling with outbursts of uncontrollable violence. But this clip didn`t include the scene with Jesse at all - nor the fact Marnie and Ellie had conspired to break up Neeta and Mac. So since it didn`t include the most significant traumas to start of the changes in Mac, the title here is a little misleading to the content.
