@@O-.-O so what you're saying is I could've bought a pedal and it would sound much better since the hollow body could produce more sustain or tones from the body? I recently bought a cheap Glarry hollow and this got me thinkin when I watched a previous video on hollow body used in metal. Seems like it would produce a nasty, killer hall room evil sound if I had the right pedal. I'm not sure about amps, but line6 seems to have lots of effects for someone who wants to experiment on a budget (i'm not sure how it works too, if line6 is digital then the sound would have to rely on the sampling rate and levels that the amp can achieve? anyone wanna enlighten me on this?)

Having just added a semi-hollow (an Ibanez Artcore) to my guitar harem, and having had the audacity to hit the gain on my amp and play Celtic Frost and Darkthrone riffs on it the first night I had her, I can safely say you can play metal on a supposed "jazz" guitar.

semihollow guitars feedback more than solid body guitars. That’s a real thing. So in live scenarios, with amps on stage, and the PA going, with monitors, there are dozens of problem areas waiting to send your guitar into unexpected and uncontrollable feedback.

I have been trying for years to get acoustic to sound good with distortion. I've been able to get it to sound good at home, playing by myself, but live (especially with drummers who play really loud), it usually sounds like shit. It sounds muddy as fuck no matter how you adjust your pedal and amp settings, and/or distortion is weaker/quieter than clean or vice versa (even after adding an EQ pedal into the mix), and chances are, you are going to get a fuckload of (unwanted) feedback even with a soundhole cover (actually, at some venues, the soundhole covers made it worse). Basically, it can sound good if recording at home/in a studio, but jamming with a full band or even just a drummer, or playing a show, it's not usually going to sound good because you aren't going to be able to get the volume you need to compete with the other instruments without sacrificing sound quality. Sometimes it can sound good depending on the venue, but that is rare. It's dissappointing because I've always wanted to be able to switch from acoustic to electric at the push of a pedal at shows.

If a 335 into a wall of Marshalls was good enough for Clapton when in Cream... And I suppose that disproves the main (non-aesthetic) concern with using hollow/semi-hollow bodies in highgain situations - They are worse for feedback, but back in the day, Clapton got ALL his volume from his backline. Guitarists today have front-of-house PAs and noise gates and other toys to keep their sound controlled.

Awesome! Changing pickups on hollow bodies is often very difficult as they don’t have any plastic covers on the back of the guitar to access the volume and tone pots. You’ll need to do it all via the f holes on the front of the guitar. It’s not impossible though, but I’d definitely recommend getting a pro to swap them out for you. :)

I used to have an Alternative Metal band I did Vocals and Bass in, and our Guitarist played an Epiphone 335 in Karnivool tuning (BF#BGBE) but it sounded sick to us. Granted, you don't always play with hi gain in Alternative Metal so that could be why it sounded sick.

Would this work well for Doom/Stoner? Some of those acts play hollows. How well does it handle lower tunings like you have in the vid but sludgier neck tones? Did it require a lot of setup? This guitar sounds amazing btw. But my chops suck so I doubt I'll be able to play much regular metal haha. I really want to learn Crystal Mountain now tho. You even made Metallica sound cool again lol

I played on an acoustic guitar with a cheap pickup wired in for a while, so this really brings me the nostalgia. With certain songs and riffs, I genuinely prefer a hollow body

The feedback really is the biggest problem. Noise gates and lower gain settings help a lot and also could generate different ideas to those you’re used to. Thanks for watching! :)

I play on a hollow body guitar but for some reason it sounds absolutely horrible when I record it digitally. It sounds pretty decent when I play it directly through an amp but I can't record it that way. (I use a Focusrite Scarlett solo and my DAW is reaper) I'm not sure if it really is because of the guitar. Does anybody have an idea why my recordings sound so terrible? Thanks in advance
