One of the reasons I love this is because it's a huge FU to all those snobs claiming that purple heart and ebony effects tone on electric guitars. The fact that a guitar made from a substantial amount of glue and thin ply still sounds incredible is just incredible. Don't get me wrong, ebony Is gorgeous and purple heart looks incredible, but how you use these materials to create an amazing guitar just blows me away! Keep it up tim, it looks great!

I love the look of rare exotic woods, too! But I don't like the footprint and, indeed I am waving a middle finger with every guitar I make :)

Actually it makes a difference but some people only can hear it, in certain conditions... But Reclaim everything is better, we already produced enough wood to build guitars... Could we use reclaimed glue ?

thanks! Y'know, in probably 50 years I'll be gone. Sure I'll have a bunch of crap I've made to leave behind, but the kids are my most important creations and require the most time and energy as they are REALLY the only thing we'll ever make that are important. It's very hard to remember that while we're busy running on our hamster wheels, but I try to keep my eye on the prize.
Great video, really nice looking and sounding guitar, and it's always nice to see parents teaching their kids in an encouraging manner.
I know nothing about guitars, but I do know wood working and what you created here is a masterpiece. And for what it’s worth, I think it sounds fantastic. But the other things you created are a keepsake, and a very special memory for your son. Your guidance, patience, and love for him are admirable. He clearly looks up to you. We live in a world where the traits that have historically defined “good men” seem to be fading quickly so it’s good to see there are men like yourself who understand the importance of being a role model.
I really appreciate your work ethic and sharing that same morality and sense of pride with your son is priceless! Great Dad!!

It looks, and sounds really nice! Also love how you have Vance help you, not only is it good bonding, but he’s also learning cool skills!
I really appreciate the clips of you teaching your son proper tool usage, having him help, and just being around while you work. He is learning life skills he will be thankful for one day when he is older. I know, now, I'm thankful for what my own dad taught me.

+1 for P-rails. If you had EMG, Fishman, Lace, et al, in it, nobody would even know it was even made of wood. Olly Steele is using Ibanez now instead of Aristides. Aristides makes only one type of composite guitar. There was much conversation on his last video, upon which I had to tell the kids that the ash/mahogany body contained more NATURAL GRUNT than plastic and finish off with "I can't explain it any more simply than that you little punks". This guitar, being made of ANY wood (or any material closely resembling it) also contains more NATURAL GRUNT than any given Aristides. Now, put both those guitars in a very damp room for an hour and see which one you can play, much less hold intonation on.
I spent the day at the shop with my son too. He leaves again for college next month. Seems like yesterday he was helping me like Vance helps you. Those days went by fast. Enjoy them to their fullest and keep encouraging him. He will keep coming back and that my friend is an awesome feeling.

I love seeing your son becoming involved, and actually enjoying the experience......and so obviously willing to learn!! Too cool for words! A lot can be done in two weeks! You're absolutely right, it's about opening the eyes and planting the seeds, not necessarily downloading your lifetime of skill and experience in to the young'n. They need to learn that on their own. I don't want Vance to follow in my footsteps (that would be sad, y'know?) I want him to run past me! THe best way I now how to do that is to teach him as much as I can and remind him there is always more to learn.

Things ya never think of! Doors & pallets. I was looking at the idea of building a tiny home frame out of pallets and other reclaimed/repurposed materials for insulation, walls, flooring, roofing, etc . . .
I used to work in a door factory and made 1000's of those doors. The doors with wood sticks inside are just as good as the paper core doors only they are older. The cardboard core started about 1965, (when I got married) because they were cheaper. It took a lot of wood for the older doors as well as a lot of manpower to buy, ship, kiln dry, cut, and stack before use. The cardboard came in large bundles and was half the cost. Just a bit of history.

I'm always impressed that the easiest part on a guitar build is probably the actual body and the neck is the hardest while being much smaller, i know you didn't show much of the neck work but i've watched plenty guitar build videos to know that, specially if one doesn't have a cnc like you, great work on this one, doors work as a veneer basically giving it a cool look regardles of it being made of scrap

Try building your own. Even if you buy all of the parts, you can build the body with pine from Home Depot, or buy a blank, and all you need is a 30$ harbor freight router and a 30$ jigsaw. You may also need some pipe clamps if you make the blank yourself. Assembling it isn’t all that much harder than a basic setup. I did it when I was 13

Mini Sway!! In the house!
Awesome idea. Funny fact is that I actually have been having a very similar idea for years. Unfortunately because of lack of a decent workshop just never build it. How is the neck holding up? Should be a very strong construction using the plywood in this direction. Theoretically you could even make the neck and body from one piece. Like your builds
@timsway
5 жыл бұрын
I do plan on making a one piece like this, as well as all sorts of other patterns and lamination designs. This is the second neck I've made this way now and it's great! sometimes the ply chips away and little spots need to get filled with epoxy, but they mostly hang in there.
