Such a great stop for HAL and Carnival cruises. If you are a beach person, you will love it!

Just got back. It was gorgeous

Great video, but it missed a few things. An easy walk to the back side of the island are the friendly sting rays and kayaking. A smaller beach in the back side and a trail up to some 100 year old ruins at the top of a hill. Going further are the stables for horses. Of course, the beach is the primary draw. Not only beautiful, but also warm, clean and soft sand all the way out. Some relatively good snorkeling near the entrance to the beach.

Stunning.

I was on the Nieuw Amsterdam that day. Think I was in bar same time as you.

It’s a beautiful island.

This island is not a private island owned by Holland America Lines. It is owned by Carnival Corporation and is available to all Carnival Corpuration cruise lines.

Thank. Yes. Carnival Corp owns it but it is predominantly marketed as Holland America’s. It’s a beautiful place.

Do they have any type of transportation around the island for mobility challenged people? I’m planning to go here in January and I can walk, but not long distance.

If I recall they did have some golf cart type transport from the ship to the main entrance of the island. I cannot recall if they had any transport beyond that but I would thing they may. Island staff should be able to assist with getting to an accessible area for you. Staff is always there to help.

Jean, they do have an open air tram tour of the island. We took it in November and it was wonderful. It is one of the excursions offered. Our tour guide on the tram was great and covered a lot of interesting facts about the island. There were also brief stops along the way. Highly recommend it!

Not really that great. Have been to the island many times. My son uses a wheelchair and I do have to push him around the island. The trams (trucks)have high steps, that are impossible for someone who has knee, hip, stair issues. The walk from the tender dock to the closest beach or shopping isn't too far, but it is a much longer walk to the island BBQ. If you happen to see a golf cart pass by, the workers will give you a ride, but not always available.

No. My son is a wheelchair user and we frequent the island alot. The tram has a high step that is impossible to climb if you have mobility challenges. I have written to them asking for a wheelchair accessible golf cart and haven't heard back. They do have a beach wheelchair to use on the beach if you have someone to push you on the sand.

Did not know HAL had a private island.

There are facilities located all around the island. Everything is an easy walk from the beach.

Not really. If you walk down near the pirate ship, the beach is less crowded, but still within the ropes, and there are large single stall bathrooms in the pirate ship bar.

It is pronounced, ‘key’…..just like the Florida Keys…..
