as an aussie, i like to see americans over here exploring our large land. Glad you had fun. Some trivia, our coat of arms has the emu and kangaroo on it, both animals cant walk backwards, and we also eat them. :)

*The Absolute Biggest highlight of my existence is watching you both! You two mean so much to me and I am absolutely glad that you were fortunate enough to cuddle a koala while in Australia! I have never cuddled one previously so can only imagine how adorable it would have been! Next time you come to Australia (and visit Cairns) you need to bring Branden, Mindy, and the children with you as they would absolutely love it too! ~ Peter in Cairns, Queensland, Australia* ❤️🇦🇺

Magpies are nice birds that have the brain of a T. rex during nesting season. The only things that are bad in Australia are crocs snakes spiders scorpions dingos sharks and jelly fish. ...and bull ants plus a few other things...

That was a magpie that was going for your food. I’ve only ever seen them swoop down from trees at people during their hatching season. Never seen them do it for food, it’s normally seagulls that steal food here 😂

LOL @ killer birds! The birds have no fear here, i was having lunch with some friends last week in Sydney and a bird flew into the restaurant, stole a whole steak off my friends plate and flew off.

  • @LynHannan

Yeah, the magpies will swoop for food, you did the right thing by moving indoors; they can get aggressive. The wallaby would have been better behaved if you'd sat down next to it, you may have even scored a cuddle. Roos are more aloof, though having said that; I was "kissed" by a roo when I were a little kid about 8 or 9 years old. My family had gone camping along the Murray River, at Hattah/Kulkine National Park (it was an Easter thing we did each year) about 40 years ago. It was too hot to sleep in the caravan, so we dragged our mats outside for the night. Dad told us about various stars and constellations, even an aboriginal story about the Seven Sisters (Pleiades), (we weren't taught much about aboriginal culture in school). Then a ruckus started up in the trees above us - it really sounded like pigs grunting and squealing. Dad told us it was a Koala "couple" having a domestic - she just wasn't in the mood. It went on for a couple of hours until around 11-30, when Dad deliberately started his car and fiddled with the "choke" (?!?) to make it backfire - everything was quiet after that! Anyway, we were sleeping outside. Morning came; the sun hadn't reached our area yet, and I hadn't started moving or even opened my eyes yet, but I could see paleness through my closed eyelids - I was just enjoying listening to all the birds singing. I heard a very slight rustle, then a minute later, I felt a tickle on my cheek that continued on to become a lick from a warm, wet tongue! Then I heard more rustling, so I opened my eyes just in time to see the rear end of a kangaroo moving slowly away from me - I guessed it was bigger than me at the time, but I was a bit of a runt as a kid, so now I'm thinking it was probably a very young adult eastern grey kangaroo. It had been licking the dew off my face! Nobody else was awake, not even Mum (early riser). I saw seven or eight more roos pass by us, they saw that I was awake, but I just stayed in my bed so they weren't concerned. I think that was also the time Dad tied up some low branches in a plastic bag to collect water - we all had a couple of mouthfuls, it tasted just fine (don't drink water from the Murray River, it's too muddy). A couple of years ago I mentioned this story to Brandon (en/on?) Bingham (TIHWB) when he'd said they'd not done much camping. I wonder if he remembers that; he responded in the comments! I'll stop rambling now, I hope you continue to have a fantastic holiday, love from Victoria!
