Holíč is situated on the southwestern edge of Slovakia, close to the border with the Czech Republic. Its location on an important route between Hungary and Bohemia was one of the reasons for the creation of the water castle that controlled this corridor. Later it was rebuilt into an anti-Turkish fortress. In the 18th century, the castle was acquired by Francis of Lorraine, the husband of Maria Theresa, who loved the town and built a summer residence here. In addition to it, he also created a successful ceramic manufactory, built a large Baroque granary and many other interesting enterprises. Under the influence of the Habsburgs, the town acquired a new Baroque character, its economic background was raised and its population multiplied.

- Jewish cemetery - also a sad monument to the once large community
- Baroque granary - a huge 5-storey building with brick vaults
- Orthodox church of Slovak displaced persons from Ukraine
- Kostol Božského srdca Ježišovho Church, Loreto Chapel
- Former ceramic manufactory and menhirs - prehistoric cult stones, which unfortunately, we did not have time to see, due to the approaching storm
