I remembered seeing a pretty ryokan only accessible by boat in Arashiyama River, Kyoto more than a decade ago. Google maps it and found it was Hoshino Resorts. In that decade + years, the number of hotels has more than tripled, Japan tourism has truly escalated. For everyone thinking of thinking of taking the train to see the lavender, do take note of the last train. Farm Tomita station, where the lavender fields are, is only open during summer and closes earlier than the other stations (before the farm closing time). Don't miss the last train or you'll have to walk an hour to the next one! Yes, stations in Hokkaido are far apart.

Great video, Sarah! This series is a big deal for me, as what would've been my 3rd annual trip to Japan (fall 2020) has been postponed indefinitely, for obvious reasons. That trip (hopefully next year) was, and is, going to be to Hokkaido. Other than visiting some onsens, the Sapporo Beer Museum and maybe the Snow Festival - I haven't many ideas, yet. Can't wait for the next vid!! 👍

I couldn’t wait for this series to premiere and sure enough, I wasn’t disappointed 😅👏🏼 I loved everything from the editing, the choices of music and yes, to even the melon ice cream (which I now want so bad haha) And of course, your humour. That too 😅 Speaking of Hokkaido, I was thinking of going to Kitami in February for their annual outdoor Yakiniku festival. Got the idea from Mr Only In Japan John Daub, who went there about a year and a half ago. So I thought I’d give it a shot! 😅🥶 Anyway, can’t wait for episode 2. Take care and have fun! 👋🏼😄

that eyebrow wiggle! lol. yay potato and cows! that flower garden is very well done. seven star tree.... boring. hokkaido ice cream!! always a good idea. I've only see ice cream in melon in Japan. The colors of that garden - the red, purple, yellow and orange! wow! Lavender - reminds me of Southern France. Single carriage train (anime, anyone?). Resort looked nice, probably expensive. Too many restaurants to choose - such a foodie problem! The buffet food looked so pretty (especially for a buffet). Gift shop!! always too many cute things to buy. can't buy it all. Breakfast buffet (my fav kind!) - you can never get too much bread/sweets. Do you feel yourself reliving the meals when you edit your videos? and getting hungry?

Nice hotel.. I got introduced to Hoshino Resorts via an Abroad in Japan video on Hoshino Resorts Oirase Keiryu Hotel in Aomori where there is a mixed bath in the middle of the forest beside a waterfall, plus they have a 14km nature trail along the Oirase stream with gorges and several waterfalls that ends in Lake Towada.. they also have a great buffet featuring Aomori apples. They even have a massage chair inside the room as Sharla has shown us in her room tour when she stayed there along with Chris Broad and Chaki. I long plan to stay there but this prolonged pandemic kept on delaying my plans as international travel for tourism is still not back to normal here in Asia. Until now, Japan is not yet open to tourists and even fully vaccinated essential travelers need to quarantine for 10 days.
