HOKA One One Carbon X review vs Nike Vaporfly Next Percent

Спорт

Two more flagship shoes put side by side for comparison in a battle of the carbon fibre plates. But is the HOKA Carbon X really trying to do the same job as the Nike Next%? I take a look at these two cutting edge shoes to find out if the comparison is even the right one to make.

    Nice insights on both shoes. I have the Carbon X and VF FK 4% (and will probably get the Next % when it is more readily available) and despite not being a hardcore runner, it's obvious there is a big difference between the X and VF. I enjoy both, but the VF is in a class of its own (for better or worse); just a completely different feel than anything else I've tried along with that ultra high pricepoint. That said, the X seems more versatile and I end up using them more frequently.

    It seems like Nike considered weight a lot and removed a lot. However, since the Hoka splits the carbon plate, I wonder if they're the same weight. For elite runners, just a few grams of weight is a factor in whether you're first or 3rd.

    Awesome review well done. I haven’t tried either shoe but have after watching lots of comparison reviews I ordered the HOKA carbon X. Reasons for this are that they will last a LOT longer than the vapourflys and for the vast majority of runners there won’t be much difference in marathon times between the two shoes unless you are running sub 2:40. Fair?

But if you're a regular runner gaining a minute on a marathon can be done by training more which is free. Great comparison. I have both the Vaporfly 4% flyknit and the Carbon X. Love the Carbon X for longer, fast paced marathon build-up miles. Feel clunky at slow miles to me. The 4% is strictly for racing for me as will be the %Next. Carbon X get more overall miles but doubt I would race in them in anything under a 50k. Carbon X just feels to heavy and I can't get the turnover I need. The Zoom X foam is far superior for taking the pounding away from my legs. I personally don't think you try compare the 2 shoes (other than they have a carbon plate) as they have different uses for me. Get both and have the best of both worlds!!!! $275 for the %Next here in US...

  • @Manvmiles

    @Manvmiles

    I tend to agree. I think the Carbon X work for faster marathon training miles or those training runs where you might want to mix fast and slow. I often do a 15 miler with a big threshold chunk in the middle, for example, and I think these work nicely for that. One of the reasons I did the comparison here was to really show that they're different.

    I truly wish Nike would make the next% more wide foot friendly and also a version without the carbon fiber plate and one with. So it meets more feet and benefits more people. God willing all this happens because I feel like Nike only shows love for skinny feet people lol. Because unless Nike smartens up and realizes the massive need for a super comfortable super squishy casual/trainer shoe. They are missing some of there true potential. And I feel like Nike would truly be the #1 most comfortable shoe. Like take there element React shoe right take that width and shape as far as making it wider and more stable with the width leave the squish just making it wider and more geared for training and casual that shoe would blow away the market and I love ultraboost which is still all around the winner as far as upper width comfort and all that. So it’s just my opinion. But I’m telling you there is so many people like me who love the running tech when you can use it for regular training and can Casually where all day. God bless great video brotha

    1) It's designed for racing and elite runners that's why it is narrow with a carbon plate. 2)There are plenty of cushioning shoes out there don't need another 3)Ultraboosts aren't even designed for running they are just a very cushioned more for casual/fitness

  • @ocanafamilyeaanz7058

    @ocanafamilyeaanz7058

    Ime I completely disagree If that we’re true that we have comfortable shoes so that’s that? No it always has room to grow for more comfortable shoes. Other wise there would never be any innovation in sneaker tech. Two your telling me just because it’s made for racers that there’s no wide foot runners? Wide foot people need shoes to you know not just skinny feet people. But for real if people would have looked at comfort like there’s comfortable shoes out there there’s no reason to change this shoe for anything better than brands would die from lack of ambition and striving for the next best thing. We would still have nothing but plain Jane Eva versus they tweek it now days to have boost and react and zoomx so to say there’s plenty out there that’s comfortable this shoe is designed for racing only is crazy thought process when there’s more than one racer foot and will never grow and improve from one shoe to the next. So I completely disagree on that way of thinking when there’s always room for improvement and room to make more shoes for a wider range of feet shapes and sizes. God bless not talking trash just don’t agree with you ya know

    Both these shoes are NOT for heal strikers .. the drop on the Carbon X is lower that the Next % isn't it ?? no way you'd strike the heal more in a lower drop shoe 💙 thanks so much for doing this comparison 💙 Yeah right on Carbon X sizing - I normally take 9.5 in Hoka but had to take a 10 in the Carbon X | the Hoka Mach 2 is a safer shoe for most runners .. The Carbon X you can't really run slow in them ..

  • @Manvmiles

    @Manvmiles

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I didn't mean to present the HOKAs as heel strikers shoes. The point I was trying to get across is that on the run you get away with striking the heel more in the Carbon X than the Next%. So I think over longer distances where your form might fail the HOKAs are probably a bit more forgiving. With the Next%, the only way is up on the forefoot.

    @@Manvmiles yeah my impression of the Carbon X vs the Mach 2 is that the Mach would be an even safer choice for those who can't maintain form later in the "race" - the Mach 2 is also lighter than the Carbon X by about 10% - that has to help in those later stages (not as much as the Next % of course) Thanks for the reply - all the best for the channel 💙
