When i started the Mafate Speed 4, coming from the Speedgoat 5, I loved them. It was my ultra option, I even bought 3 pairs... But eventually one day, during an ultra, they started to give me high pain on the external ankle maleolae. This pain is now installed, can't go away, I need to run with shoes that are lower in that part... and the Mafate is definitely high on that part, touching the bone there. I switched to Merrell Agility Peak 5 and it's really going great so far.

Nice review, I am so confused now. I raced my ultra last year with the atr and it was not meant for it at all so I thought that I would look forward to the mafate this year since apparently the speedgoat is too narrow, this will be a tough one.

I’m never had great experiences with ATRs. My vote would still be with the Mafates I think. Definitely over the speedgoats at the moment. Maybe a pair of Mafate 3’s on sale would be the go, but that’s just speculation. Good luck!

my foot is really wide, is this good for super wide foot?

These are fairly standard for a Hoka (fairly average to slightly narrow), but Altra and Topo definitely offer wide feet some more room.

saucony xodus ultra has wide fit. not super wide but wider than most in the market
